I'll grant you, everything you said is correct. However, Venus isn't habitable, nor is mars. Or the moon, for that matter. The same science fiction that can make venus habitable could very well make mercury habitable. The reason people want this is simple; the other planets have so little to offer that they think a new planet will fix things.
