The problem with microtransactions is that they seem to always lead to developers making extra charges mandatory instead of optional. The full game should always be sold at a base price, and any DLC should never change the core game for those who choose not to purchase it.
For example, it's OK for them to charge extra for customizing the physical appearance of your weapons, armor, ship, etc., but it's NOT OK for them to make you pay to increase your damage limit or armor value because it gives an unfair advantage in PvP which forces everyone to buy it to stay competitive.
And it's fine if they charge for a side story DLC that's only briefly mentioned in the main story(The Last of Us did a great job of this with the Left Behind DLC), but they should never charge for a "true" ending or for a key item that you absolutely need to progress to the next level.
Point is, the game should always stand on its own. To make DLC anything but optional is reprehensible and insulting to the gaming community. Although it would be nice to have some microtransactions, the history of this business shows they will eventually abuse them. :(
