Mars, you can tell by studying it that life did try to make a start there just as it did here, but it happened to be just outside the "Goldilocks Zone", as they call it. Not too hot, not too cold. Earth is right where you would want it to be...

Its not as far as, say, Pluto or Neptune. Its relatively the same distance as earth. Its conditions are similar to earth, however because its farther the ice caps are frozen and the planet has an arid look.
