This is true because Venus has an atmosphere primarily composed of CO2. However, Destiny is set in the future and Venus has obviously been terraformed (most of the land is covered in plant life). Plants would have reduced CO2 levels and boosted Oxygen levels. The other side of this argument is: How did they terraform Venus? The planet does not fall into what physicists call the 'goldilocks' zone (not too hot so that water boils, not too cold that water completely freezes). Without water, life as we know it cannot exist. Earth is unique in our solar system as it is the only planet to be in the Goldilocks zone associated with our star (the sun).
