People are saying Venus is hotter because.... It is.... Venus is suffering from a huge greenhouse effect whilst Mercury has virtually no atmosphere, thus the surface temp of Venus is much higher than Mercury despite Mercury being closer to the sun.
Mercury's temp ranges from 425 degrees Celsius on the side facing the sun to -195 ish degrees on the side facing away, whereas Venus is always 462 degrees C (plus or minus a few) all over the planet.
So yes Venus is hotter than Mercury. In fact parts of Mercury are actually colder than earth and mars.
