You're an idiot. Venus is hotter than Mercury by about a hundred degrees because of its atmosphere.
In the game it describes Mercury turning into a "garden world" until the Vex turn it into a weapon like how they tried to do Mars.
In the grimoire cards in places, it shows Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn which shows that we will be going to those planets.

I'm aware of the lore in the game that the VEX turned mercury into a machine. But I don't recall weapon? If it's a weapon what can it do?

I have no idea what it can do, but during one of the Mars missions your ghost tells you how the Vex are trying to turn Mars into the same weapon they made Mercury.

I'm pretty curious about this. Are the VEX attempting to create an armada of death stars or something? Lol I originally assumed the VEX turned planets into machines so they can teleport the troops there much easier in case someone is trying to take that planet away from them. Because you already know VEX don't need ships so I'm going to guess they turn planets into giant teleport devices.

Like I said I'm not sure. I think we will find out more about it when we make the inevitable trip to Mercury in a later dlc or game.
