The concept of business development and marketing must be lost on you. It's pure ignorance to assume that Bungie didn't run focus groups when preparing this game. They clearly knew that story would be a big issue hence the attempt with the grimoire cards. Bungie lost a good chunk of it's staff leading up to the release of Destiny as a result the story and overall game experience has suffered.
