its a shame that the majority of the community fail to understand that bungie created the lore and presented it in a fashion that would allow the community to gather round and create fan appreciation pieces the creator of this video is obviously fully aware of this information and has utilized it perfectly the person who made the thread just does not get it and has instead failed at understanding the point of the games lore

No they tried to copy that part of dark souls except that was all in game. Not grimore and it was intricate to the point of even where you pick up items tells a story. Dead ghosts are barely area specific and the rest isn't really at all. Nothing to read or find in game compared to dark souls inventory weapons and areas so sorry destiny is a poor imitation of that kind of story telling. Also I'll wait for you to compare the number of Npcs and their dialogue. Part of the story is there but don't tell me that this was their plan. It might have worked if it had at least a 1/10 of the depth

  • Dark souls sucked tho, destiny is pretty good. It's no pc mmo but it's better than Diablo 3 and borderlands

Lmao well then you have very very different tastes and not taken much of an objective look because every critic puts dark souls and borderlands above destiny. The creators of destiny love dark souls and stole so many ideas.

I'm an artist, love to play video games for the immersion, the characters, the stories, and those awe moments we've all experienced while playing. I have no desire to study collectible cards to puzzle together a semblance of a story. I buy video games to be entertained. Don't have a lot of free time because... life, so I try to choose carefully. Bungie did not advertize Destiny as a blank sandbox, but a game filled with lore, adventures, stories. I have a very vivid imagination, made up all kinds of stories with every character I've encountered in Destiny, in my head. I can do the same by drawing, writing on my own time, somewhere else, not while playing on my console. Destiny is all about the grind, the weapons and "Omgerd! Five billion players have played for xxxx hours in xxxx amount of days, doing the same thing over and over again! WOW! Terrific!". I'm happy for Bungie some players are addicted to this game, but I find the gameplay to be more chore than pleasure. Storytelling and goosebumps unforgettable moments were part of Bungie's legacy in the past. I couldn't care less about the story or the characters in Destiny. If it wasn't for Marty O'Donnell's music coupled with the artistic beauty of this game, I would not have any reason to play at all in this world devoid of any feelings I am unable to relate to.

  • You're just trying to find excuses for bungie slacking off.

  • Bungie didn't do that for our benefit. The grimoire was only added after the original story was chopped to bits after Joe left. It's called lazy development.

  • Presenting the material separate from the game and expecting the fans to make something out of it is still lazy. Granted its better than getting nothing, but not being able to view in game still sucks.

  • They should just add a god damn pokedex so I can read grimoire cards in game.

  • You know, at the same time, even if I cared to read all those stupid cards, you can't get the actual full story unless you have found all the dead ghosts and crap that give them to you.

  • People act like this is a fps campaign and not a mmorpg which I don't think a majority of guardians have ever played. Any mmo has a half bit story and feels like devs just reused other stories ideas. Destiny is original and I know Bungie mad a great game and story with Halo but this isn't Halo. The fact about destiny and how Bungie has advertised a world for us to build and shape ourselves, I just hope I can set a milestone and my guardian will be mention in destiny 2 when they discuss the events that happened in the first installment. What's the story in WOW for anyone that has played?

  • Remember that trailer? Boy was I excited back then...
Any mmo has a half bit story and feels like devs just reused other stories ideas.
No. Bungie did not advertize this game as an MMO. If they had, I would not have bothered at all. Their advertisement was geared at pleasing every game play style, which Destiny clearly does not offer. Lone wolf in Destiny is the loneliest and saddest experience. "Best served with friends" indeed.
Made friends with an ogre in Old Russia. We hang, I help him with his computer issues, he stomped on it while raging... But yeah, if you took away the music (the only story telling actually, "Not by words alone"), the only thing left is a beautiful but cold, cold world.
• This game was most definitely advertised as a fps mmorpg.

  • This game was advertised as being everything for everyone, including the lone wolves & campaign lovers. "We can't call it this, or that, but it has elements of this and that..." You can never please everyone. Majority is pleased, majority rules. For those of us who are looking for a less repetitive addiction, there's other choices out there.

  • Weird. I watched alpha and played beta and watched every trailer or excerpt and there were no surprises when this game came out. It's exactly how it was supposed to be, or what they said it was throughout all 2014. There's nothing they said that would be here that isn't and nothing the isn't here that they said would be. I entered my codes for the grimoire in 2013. So if this is a shitstorm pieced together it was shit the whole time and nobody payed attention.

Each expansion of WoW has a separate story. You play through them and some are quite good. The raids incorporate major battles in the story line. Wrath of the Lich King for example, was about a major paladin falling to the darkness and coming back as the king of the undead. The game played with you trying to take him out and stop the end of the world.

  • The only problem is that MMOs have atleast half bit stories. They may not be very good but for the most part they are complete. Destiny's problem is that 95% of the story is in grimoire cards which aren't even included in the damn game. And the story that they do have is so segmented and disparate from one another that it is hard to make out what the story was supposed to be in the first place.

The thing is we are in the time just after the collapse. In the game your given all the info of the world around you (yes I know dinkledik acts like we know a ton of shit) but then all the stuff we experience in game (weapon, places, enemies) are all broken down more in the grimiore once we claim them. I understand it could be in game but I feel like Bungie wanted to cut the reading from npcs out (being a console game), I always dreaded all the reading from all the npcs but now you do kinda miss it. It was just a innovative thing to try that failed to most the community but I disagree with any comment about the story being broken. We are creating and playing it, the game hasn't been out for 6 months yet. Edit: guild wars 2 releases their story in sections (although there is more to do and more rewards for many other "in-between" activities) and it was a very nice effect for keeping gameplay and longevity of players.

  • You must be high... Bungie didn't create the Grimoire you knucklehead, it's a fall back option after their lead writer bailed because Activision greed wanted to slice up the world and story he created. This happened within a year of release, they panicked and the only thing they could come up with is the grimoire which they paid some writer at the last minute to create.

  • don't worry dude... anyone who decides to take a little time to dig into the past (starting 2013) can see for themselves that the grimoire was a last minute patch job, and anyone who doesn't believe that is just gullible & narrow-minded. Anyone that followed destiny when it was starting to get announced & knew bungie from way back would know that if the game stayed on track & their writer/team didn't bail, the grimoire wouldn't have ever been created & we'd have a great fleshed out story. The story might still have gone in this direction even with Joe staying as lead writer (we'll never know if he decided to change direction with the story or not), but it would've been told wonderfully & clearly and we wouldn't be dealing with the lack of story like we are now..... and we definitely wouldn't have had this silly grimoire tell the story instead.
