its a shame that the majority of the community fail to understand that bungie created the lore and presented it in a fashion that would allow the community to gather round and create fan appreciation pieces the creator of this video is obviously fully aware of this information and has utilized it perfectly the person who made the thread just does not get it and has instead failed at understanding the point of the games lore

  • About a year before launch, they let go of the main writer or he walked out, I am not sure which. A new writer was brought in to create the Grimoire. He created it off the story the main writer worked on, supposedly. That 15 minute video is the culmination of hundreds of hours spent reading, remembering, and piecing together the story from the Grimoire. I love a good puzzle, but in a video game i want the story delivered in a narrative like we saw in that video. Even in a puzzle game like Portal or Portal 2, i want a story to follow inbetween the puzzles.

  • Exactly this! Playing a game, I want a MOVIE type story shared to understand and identify with the characters i'm seeing and playing with. until this video... Destiny was a guy running around killing things

  • see when I play a game I hate a MOVIE type story. I want to make my story, to build my legend, not be forced to follow some set script where nothing I do or want to do matters.

  • they gutted the narrative from the game itself and replaced it with a set of cards that will give you the story IF you play the game without it long enough to unlock the cards that you need, then take the time needed to read the cards and put each card in the right order to form a proper timeline and storyline. you should not have to play a game to either near or full completion prior to getting the narrative behind everything you've done. even beating the Crota raid feels like a mere accomplishment... a trophey. it has no real meaning or weight to the narrative in-game. you should not have to complete the Crota raid and then wander over to a website or an app to read about what you did. if you went to a movie and it was full of action scenes with hardly any real plot presented to give you a clear understanding of what lead to those action scenes or why those actions scenes are significant, then you'd probably walk away with the thought "man, I loved the action, but what the hell was it all about?" now imagine if the movie producers and directors said "oh, we had to cut a lot of that stuff out. if you go to our website and show proof that you've paid for and watched the movie, then we'll give you access to a set of index cards that will give you small pieces of the narrative that we cut out, but you'll still have to piece it together for yourself." would that make a lot of sense to you?

  • Bungie prior to launch "experience a game rich with lore. As you delve into world's with wonder and truly feel invested in your characters" Translation. -- "download our app and read these little paragraphs and piece together a story with your inner imagination". That would work if there was actually content to explore. Has anyone even mentioned that there isn't any hidden easter egg stuff? Like wtf!

  • I'm sure there is a couple. But it really is dumb to have a big empty world where the only thing you find after explore caves on said planet is a chest that gives you level 12 gear

  • This isn't the one I'm hiding, but go read the weapon names. Half are easter eggs. Another NiTC, Another nail in the coffin. That's an example.

  • There game lore and then there's laziness. If you paid £50 to see a film in the cinema just to find a blank screen and then told to "make up your own film story with your imagination" ....I bet you'd be a bit annoyed.

  • More like a film made of little snippets where each incomplete one ends with a giant URL splashed on the screen so if the viewer wants to find out how that part ended they just need to download an app and punch the URL. Yup, it would be a great movie.....

  • But we didnt get a blank screen of a game... so your analogy is invalid

  • you can't call it the games lore....you could call it website lore perhaps. For the record though, it's generally accepted by basically everybody in the industry that the grimoire was a giant failure. Taking plot from the game and putting it outside the game was one of the worst ideas in the history of bad ideas in video game history.
