Why aren't YOU using Shotguns in PVE?
Do share, why don't you use them? And I'd rather have more specific reason than "I don't like them" (which is a valid reason ofcourse), because I'm curious why don't you like them.

Getting into shotgun range in high level pve content can be pretty dangerous. Unless its a bubble party.

You can OHK most enemies just fine from a much safer distance than point blank with a scout, hand cannon, sniper, fusion, and even heavy machine guns. Why put your self at risk on harder content for zero upside? Honestly fusions are just better and have 10x the range.

The nightfall and Heroic because of active perks make it too dangerous to risk being that close in range. And they're not 1 shot kills like they are in PVP. I use my shotgun against thrall and low threat enemies or crowds, and whenever i go invisible as a hunter. but thats it... a fusion rifle does the same damage, higher chance of a 1 shot kill, and at a further range.

Any big enemy 1-hit melees you Shotguns put out too little dmg to save you up close

You need to get close to use shot guns properly and when light switch is on melee are 1 hit kills.

I used to use shotguns but then I realized I die less when i stay back and snipe instead of charging in there like a moron and getting wrecked by enemies.

I prefer the stand-off provided by scout rifles. And at closer ranges I like hand canons. Shotguns in PvE require being essentially in melee range. That equates to my death in most cases. Hand Canon plus sniper, or scout plus fusion. Those are my go-to loads in PvE.

What I would love to see is an exotic rifle (Pulse, Auto, Scout...doesn't matter) with an under barrel shotgun. I know that's kind of a CoD or Battlefield type thing but it would be cool in my opinion.

The only time I EVER use one is oracle stage on VOG. VOC/found verdict combo eats up oracles. There is no other practical application that I can think of.

I'm pretty bored of the game so all I really do is the weekly strikes and the raids. Those just really aren't a good place for them. Traversing the abyss I guess could be alright but point is, you don't really want to be close to the enemy in the end game content.

Prob cuz of the 1hk kills in close range to almost everything in lightswitch or enemies your lvl to give the cheap illusion of difficulty

The guy below pointed it out. An ice breaker does a better job at close range and as they are Both special weapons, might as well have it do two jobs with one stone.

To me it's like the battle axe of guns, pure aggression and big time damage. And like the battle axe only a certain crazy few use them but they choose to because they are good with them and chop their enemies down. I use Secret Handshake continually and it rarely ever let's me down, it's got Shot Package and Hammer Forged so the range on it is really good for a boom stick. That's kind of a luxury though, most other shotguns have considerably less. Even with other not as far shooting shotguns I use them and use them well. It sounds crazy but there is a technique to a shotgun. It's useful for all kinds of enemies, bosses not so much but during them I'm usually blasting them with heavy. It can save a teammate in a bad situation on NF real quick too, which is always appreciated.

Snipers are more useful for strike bosses, and can safely ohk in the head or at least stun lock
