Do share, why don't you use them? And I'd rather have more specific reason than "I don't like them" (which is a valid reason ofcourse), because I'm curious why don't you like them.
Thank you!
EDIT: Typo, and thank you for feedback. :p

At this point were playing against enemies with light switch. If I get close and dont take them down. Its game over. Fusion rifles are beast, one shot most enemies at close to mid range. Limited ammo. capacity. Slow reload.
-
Enemy melee does more damage than my shot gun. Plus snipers rule pve
-
Have you ever tried using a shotgun on The Nexus?! Or Rockets McDuckFace? Or even the Sepiks?! It just doesn't work

Edited by LTCcherno: 2/6/2015 7:58:21 PMI use the secret handshake which has range far beyond most other shotguns as well as the delightfully nasty shot package perk. And I prefer to use them as a defence rather than my offence. Like if I'm nailing someone with a hand cannon and some tries to flank me I can whip it out, obliterate their entire upper body, yell "sit down", and then carry on with my usual business. But based on this next Nerf package catered to whiny thorn and found verdict victims I probably won't be able to rely on this strategy much longer.

Does not hold enough ammo for amount of shots it takes to kill certain enemies

Can you be more pacific please?

Edited by tacticalxxxpanda: 2/6/2015 7:54:14 PMSnipers are amazing, same reason why I don't use fusion riffles lol
-
I prefer long range combat :^)
-
I don't want to get up close and personal with hallowed knights, praetorians, captains, wizards, hydras, bosses etc. Getting killed by one or two hits because I'm too close isn't worth it for me.

Specific*

I had been mostly using fusion rifles (Murmur and Plug), but recently finished the invective bounty. Found I was getting some easy close-quarters kills with it, but the gun is disappointing. Just last night I picked up Secret Handshake w/shot package perk from Vanguard Quartermaster. I'm looking forward to upgrading it and giving it a shot in Crucible (no ammo regen like invective, but 6 in the chamber vs 4, better stability, and shot package makes it deadly at a slightly farther range when zoomed)

Edited by harperjamess: 2/6/2015 7:56:13 PMThe short range, slow reload, limited capacity. I've dismantled the only legendary shotgun I've gotten. I finally found a rare I might keep for the few times I play crucible. Edit--IRL, tube or magazine fed shotties carry 4-8 or more shells. Why are so many in game limited to 4 rounds?
-
I like the competition of outgunning people/being more accurate then the enemy. I play crucible for a competitive reason and using a shotgun is cheap. I don't ever use em, and all the people out there who spam shotties, your no good and you're the reason crucible is shit. I understand that some people use em because they just wanna get bounties done or whatever because they don't like crucible but all the people who play crucible for fun and rely on a shotty then you should know you are garbage. Blink and shotgunning people is soooo pathetic. And people complain about the thorn well thats what i use when a lot of the enemy team are using shotguns. Compared to a shotty its a pretty fair fight, 3 shot kill compared to a one shot kill. If you rely on a shotty then stop bitching about the thorn when someone uses it on you because they probably got tired of getting oneshotted by a noob. :)

Bungie just admitted they suck in pve and they are buffing them, that's why

Edited by Taggin T: 2/6/2015 7:43:40 PMBecause shotguns never did enough damage to anything to warrant use. To be close enough to use a shotgun, the enemies can basically one hit melee you if its a bigger enemy. Especially if lightswitch is turned on. Why even risk that if it takes 4-5 shotgun blasts before you can kill something?
-
I do, damnit! I'm prolly one of the 6 people that do!!!
-
Let's get into pessifics. Shotguns have very little range so you have to get right up in your targets face to use them, pessifically I am talking about Valus T'aarc and the Arxhon Priest both of them laugh at shotguns. Those pessific enemies are tough nuts to crack. Like a dictionary full of wards that ams hard to spel.
-
The enemies melee hits hard, have a ton of health, and shotguns just don't have the range to compete or help anyone the way end game content is played or the game in general (hiding behind cover, popping out to shoot and hiding again) Especially when bosses all have 1 hit KO attacks at shotgun range...
-
A shoty requires you to get up close for max damage not ideal when going up against a mob or even 2-3 minotaur especially with the low reload speed. Unless I'm running VOG and I'm at the Templar defending the right side I'd rather have my snipers
-
Never made sense to use a shotgun in pve because u really don't want to get that close to the enemies. A lot use snipers because u can clear out an area before ur even within range for enemies to know ur there and fusions are excellent for crowd control and do way more damage than shotguns with more range at the cost of their charge time. Shotguns never really could be used as a panic button either because they didn't do enough damage to take out anything bigger than an acolyte or thrall that managed to sneak up on you with one shot. After the damage increase from the weapon balancing update they may see more use for this purpose though
-
Take a fully upgraded sword breaker and see how long you last against a yellow bar sword night or bommer on crota hard mode.
-
Only way I can see ppl using shotguns is bungie dial back the damage some while light switch is in play or dial up defense on gear while holding a shotty. Other than it'll still be a the last choice for most peeps. BTW I always use a shotty PvP and pve.

I don't like getting up close and personal with most of the enemies of this game. They have these animations where they're immune examples hob goblins and Knights. I mean try to picture the main enemies of this game that are usually majors hydras,Knights, ogres captains they all have insane splash damage or "beam like" attacks. I'd rather keep my distance than try killing them with something so close quarters as a shotgun.
-
I love shotguns, but against more powerful enemies a sniper just simply deals more damage with minimal risk. A critical just deals so much from a decent sniper that it is hard to compare it to any of the shotguns. Snipers also tend to be less risky shooting an enemy (especially a powerful one) from afar is way safer then having to run up to their face in order to deal the maximum amount of damage. This is especially apparent when something like light switch is on, a shotgun could take on enemies one at a time easily even with light switch, but if you get say three around you, a shotgun does not fire faster then those enemies can melee you so you are screwed. You are just simply better off staying away from them and picking them off before they get near.

I find fusion rifles to work better.
-
I find I run out of ammo too quickly and green ammo drops aren't frequent enough. All of the shotguns I've used have less ammo reserves than fusion rifles and fusion rifles (especially with armor piercing) have more potential to take out multiple enemies. This is on top of what most other people have said (short range equals dead most of the time).
