Perfect example of why I don't bother with the shotgun. I'm watching the Bungie Art Tour of Venus. Twice now the "camera guy" has had a shotgun when heading to the ketch via Ember Caves. Both times it was all but useless against the Reaver Captain.
That same Captain is quite manageable using an equal power Fusion Rifle, and with better range to boot.

Everything but useless?

It's a common English idiom meaning that something isn't completely useless, but very nearly so. So in a scale of 0 to 10 where zero is completely useless and 10 is the most useful possible, "all but useless" would be a 1 or 2.
