Martian sand is rich in iron and iron oxide(rust), making it red. Also there is no water on mars to make ice. Even if there was, though, the ice would need to be somewhere around -120 degrees (Fahrenheit because I'm american) because the Atmospheric pressure is so low that water would exist as a gas other wise.
