Anyone with an interest in riddling is welcome.
1) Be respectful of others in the group wall. (We'd love it if you respected others outside the wall as well, however.)
2) No LFG or Spam of any kind in the group wall, unless specified by an admin (There should be an LFG post of some sort in the private section of this group's forum. If not, it's coming soon.)
3) We are here for riddling, so try to keep the chat as focused as possible on riddling-related conversation. If the chat is dead, meaningless chatter is okay, just don't clutter the chat with non-riddling things if someone is seeking feedback or the like.
4) If you aren't sure that a riddle will be well-received or you think the riddle may be faulty for whatever reason, ask me (Cadence) or an admin to review it (we have a rep to uphold, can't be shoveling out faulty riddles). I promise we won't guess, and if someone does, I'll kick them myself.
Day 4 of the weekly mega riddle explosion has begun. I'm actually afraid to say whether or not this should be easy because it always seems that the opposite will be true. So with that said, this should be easy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).
Who/what am I?
"Do you remember me? I'm sure you do, but not as your friend. Only a quarter of the whole, but one of so many more. I was forged when the strength of a deity failed. My purpose has changed yet remains the same. Hold for a moment and you shall know me. But fear not, for I can create wonders, in more ways than one. You think me worthless now, yet you still crawl back to me every time."
Hint 1: My name suggests that I am ancient, but I came to be after the evil took control of my home.
Hint 2: Remember the long hours spent, running in circles. I remember you scouring the red world for me. That time has passed.

Answer:
Relic Iron
Explanation:
"Do you remember me? I'm sure you do, but not as your friend."
Relic Iron is one of the materials found in Destiny. Before the recent update, you had to spend hours running around Mars just to collect enough relic iron, which definitely couldn't have been fun memories. (I know this was kind of abstract)
"Only a quarter of the whole, but one of so many more."
Relic Iron is 1 of 4 different planetary upgrade materials in the game, along with Spinmetal, Spirit Bloom, and Helium Filaments. There are also tons of relic iron sitting around on Mars. This could also be interpreted as how there are many more upgrade materials than just the ones you find on each planet.
"I was forged when the strength of a deity failed. My purpose has changed yet remains the same."
This was kinda out there, but what I meant from this was how the relic iron's description says that it's a Post-Collapse material, meaning it came into being after the Traveler succumbed to the darkness. Relic Iron was used to upgrade defense or attack stats on weapons/armor, but now it is used to upgrade armor/weapon perks since HoW got rid of the attack/defense upgrades. It's still the same process just slightly altered.
"Hold for a moment and you shall know me. But fear not, for I can create wonders, in more ways than one."
To collect Relic Iron, you have to hold in square or X for a second. Relic Iron is used to upgrade weapons and make them more powerful, and they are used to ascend weapons and armor.
"You think me worthless now, yet you still crawl back to me every time."
Nobody really thinks much of Relic Iron nowadays since it is so much easier to obtain it. But once you run out, you are reminded of how important it really is.
