The Riddle You Remember

I have to say, this is my favorite riddle. I hold it near and dear to my heart, so much so that I made this the last riddle of my throwback series. Those who walk the void have described my action as their reaction. The sun is my friend, and furthermore, my long lost. I am still here with you, but you all have forgotten my true purpose; it is not to stay at your side, but to pass your bleeding nose.
