Riddle of the Great Conquest
What's up guys! Time for a riddle to test your MLG skillz. Good luck guardians!
Who/what am I?
"[i]Once a symbol of power in the past, I have been reduced to nearly nothing. So many disappeared without a trace, yet so much remains. You have seen me many times, as I had been important once before. What evil lurks within me? I believe you already know. There are many kinds of darkness in the depths, but these bonds were meant to be broken, yes?[/i]"

Explanation: [spoiler]"Once a symbol of power in the past, I have been reduced to nearly nothing."
The city of Freehold was a great city of the Golden Age, according to the Grimoire on Meridian Bay. Now it is a ghost down that was ravaged by the Cabal.
"So many disappeared, yet so much remains."
There were many people that used to live in Freehold during the Golden Age, but during the Collapse, they all disappeared, but the buildings, and some of the technology, like the mechanism that was controlled by Rasputin, remained.
"You have seen me many times, as I had been important once before."
You travel to Freehold on Mars many times in the story, and your mission is to remove the Caba that have taken over the city. So Freehold was pretty important for a while.
"What evil lurks within me? I believe you already know."
The Vex and Cabal occupy parts of Freehold, but this is pretty obvious before you get to freehold because of the Cabal/Vex you see roaming Mars.
"There are many kinds of darkness in the depths, but these bonds were meant to be broken, yes?"
When you go underground in Freehold, there are many Darkness-related things there (dark rooms, darkness zones, Cabal, Vex). Also,there is a line said by Commander Zavala in the Cerberus Vae III strike where he tells you to break the cabal's grip on Freehold (break the bond).[/spoiler]

The ahamkara were once a threat but they were wiped out and considered extinct. So many disappeared without a trace, yet so much remains. They were wiped out as I said earlier, but they became the armor pieces to avoid death so there are still many that survived. (This part is based on a theory I read that theorized that they could change their physical form) You have seen me many times, as I had been important once before. They're exotic armor pieces, they're important and I'm sure we've all seen them. What evil lurks within me? They are ahamkara, they have the power to influence our actions. I believe you already know. There are many kinds of darkness in the depths, but these bonds were meant to be broken, yes?" The bonds are probably the forms they have taken on, and they will break them and make their return.

3 RepliesI'm getting a strong "moon" vibe. Pre-collapse, we had a large amount of power situated there. However, with the onset of the hive's great conquest, it has been reduced to nothing. Millions of guardians were killed in Crota's attack, but leaving no bodies behind. However, much of our old destroyed moon bases remain, empty. What evil lurks within me? The dark below. The Hellmouth is crawling with all kinds of evil spawn, like Phogoth, who is the closest I come to reconciling my moon theory with the bonds part. In conclusion: I say it's the Moon.

Toland? Reason: You say you were a symbol of power in the past, so maybe people looked to Toland because he had studied the Hive. Also, if Toland was corrupted then he could have some Hive evil lurking within you. A forgotten fallen house? Reason: Fallen houses hold a lot of power, so maybe a forgotten one that's banner is long gone and tattered, not seen by the world anymore. We also know many of the fallen' evils, so you could be talking about that we know the fallen inside of you.
