Seek the deepest depths of Destiny's lore here. Feel free to post any information about the Taken, or the Darkness itself, here (remember, theories go in the Theories category).

    • Sword-Logic: Summary In the Universe of Destiny, Sword-Logic is a philosophy of existential realism (determining whether something is, or deserves to be, real) adopted by the Hive, the Vex and some Humans. According to the Sword-Logic, things are only real if they can prove they are real to everything else in the Universe (for ease of understanding, I will call the subject the Judged and everything else the Judge). By this logic, simple questions such as "can I see you?" using the Judge's senses are followed by physical challenges such as "can I kill you?". It is up to the Judged to prove their existence by (in the case of the later) not dying. To the Judge, anything not able to prove itself does not deserve to exist and removing it makes the Universe a stronger place, where only the best can live. In the act of being Judged, you concede that the Judge is also powerful and needing of Judging as you are (the Hive gain ritualistic power from both roles). In the world of Destiny, there are multiple versions of Sword-Logic, and they will be recorded below: Universal Darwinism (Hive, Future War Cult, Toland) As first revealed to them by Eir (a servant of the Darkness), this philosophy instructs the Hive that, to avoid the end of the Universe, only the strongest, most durable beings should be allowed to exist. This applies to all space but only to the present time (as Crota would be the strongest Hive due to time-spanning war on the Vex, if this were the case) and makes no tolerance for parasitism. Only the best warriors will be chosen by the Light and the Darkness to battle. This conflict sharpens the hypothetical sword, and internal conflict is also encouraged, to prevent either side becoming sloppy. Only the surviving champions of this final battle will be worthy to face the Universe and prove themselves to time and space; the ultimate Judge. Accretion (Vex) The ultimate object of the self-styled Vex's plans, Accretion requires that, to be real, nothing else must exist, either in another time or place. Replacing everything in the Universe with one of your own is the final solution to the Sword-Logic, and relying on either the Light or the Darkness is not actual victory. The Vex have multiple strategies for this; the Vex in the Black Garden sought to ally themselves with the Darkness so to eventually steal its power and use it to their own purposes; any action that gains power is viable. Atheon was designed to unify all timelines into a single Vex-ruled Universe, where the Oracles and Gorgons could effectively remove any opposition from existence (thus proving it never really existed at all, via Sword-Logic). Both theories were influenced by the other, as the Vex once conquered Oryx's throne and tried to use the Hive's Gods against them, showing that the Vex are truly willing to do anything if it means victory, if only brief.
