We took a Christmas tree ornament kit and put my son's handprint on the ornament so it can hang from our tree every year

As many have said, foot/hand prints are always a winner. We have ours on the wall and it always makes you smile (even after 10 years!). If you don't want to get the prints in plaster, you could always go to those ceramic painting shops and do a hand print on a mug.

Check a site called Shutterfly. It's one of those sites where you can get your pictures put on practically anything. And if you are on a tight budget they are always giving out free photo books either through other sites or even some of the grocery stores on the east coast have them print out at the registers. Could do a book of the baby's first year.

The footprint and/or handprint things are almost always winners. Those are the things that my wife has held on to. Gift certificate for a spa treatment of some kind is also always a winner, though that can be a gift from dad.

Google isn't helping either. Keep getting baby shower ideas.
