opinions on exotic weapon reset

There is a lot of discussion on the new exotic level reset to get it updated from xur. It's is widely hated due to the fact on how long it takes to level one. And it's hurts to only be able to level one at a time. What's your thought? Asking the more mature crowd seems to have the best results.

  • So I keep jumping back and forth. But I think I have settled on the side of liking this option. A lot of this can be attributed to the release from deej. First resetting automatically makes the weapon more powerful. Second the release states that you will be able to upgrade the weapon faster. Third I now live the thorn and if it had been made obsolete immediately after being buffed I would have been depressed. Lastly I have some exotic armor the armamentarium and the helm of Saint 14 and inmost light that I would be very sad to lose but now can make a part of my armor moving forward. As an aside I was also worried about my legendary weapons becoming obsolete but I am not afraid of that any more. At least with this update they will remain relevant. Excited to try all the new content and seeing the new options with the dlc. .

  • I've only put about 70 hours in since launch so I have like 5 exotics and only my Light Beyond Nemesis is maxed. I am excited about being able to get over 30 tho once my helm is maxed so I don't mind too much.

  • After learning more about it I'd say it's okay. Looks like they all reset to above their max damage now so it's a win there and they've said they will upgrade faster. The only difference is the exotic shards. I bought five of those this morning so I'm good there. Seems like a win for most of our beloved exotic weapons. My only remaining question: what do I do with my motes? I have 58.....

    • Since I just started to get exotics in the lasy couple of weeks, none of them are fully upgraded! So I won't mind resetting them. However no one knows what new weapons are coming out. So let's say there is a new auto rifle... Chances are its gonna have the new stats. And you are gonna want to use it. So you might never use suros anymore. Hell...there might even be a new sniper that is better than icebreaker coming! So resetting might be irrelevant if you're gonna use the new guns! I think people should just wait for the dlc to come out, and then make there opinions! This is why I just post on the dod forums. More mature responses and less bitching!

    • doesn't really matter, they can and have altered damage the enemies can absorb at their whim so weapon damage doesn't really matter anymore. Too many people completing nightfall or the weekly solo? Too many people completing the raid? Boom, increase enemy strength, remove any tricks to make it a little easier. Pretty disgusted with this game. Been playing the mess that is the MCC instead.

    • I had expected them to just add another row but this change isn't so bad when you take into consideration that ALL our exotics were updated to start at 274 now, a higher default. That also means that we are still starting from a higher attack rating after turning in an exotic so there is some balance for loosing the levelling that was done. If we had to start from the same lower original amount then I would be upset.

      • Some pretty good views on here. I don't mind releveling myself but one thing I believe seems evident. Take my pocket infinity, it did 288 damage per bullet per round. Now it does 142. I'm thinking the upgrade will post new damage but it will read 288 again once maxed. If that is the case than lesson learned. I really hope the practice isn't to nerf exotics and you have to work at them again to get the damage back.

      • The update post today had some telling sentences that could very well see us not getting reset to zero upon an upgrade. "The last thing we wanted was for you to look at your favourite gun or helmet and decide that it had become obsolete. Since the reveal, we've read a lot of ideas for how this could have been done better. Your feedback is clear: The time you have invested in your stuff should be respected." (emphasis mine). Interesting

      • It's still evolving the Exotic it's not reseting it or making it less than what it is already. It is a step forward. Taking a weapon that has max damage at 300 and upgrading it to 302 then be able to further upgrade it to 323 is part of evolving the weapon. I have no issue with the chang.

I think is a total lack of respect for those who has maxed them out. Is a nice concept to be able to "upgrade" them to be at par with the new ones but there is no need to reset them all the way down. The only thing that changes on the progression of the new exotics is the use of materials (ascendant materials no longer needed), the XP requirements still in place. Each node upgrade is 25K XP witch at best is 5 bounties at worst is 13, so depending on your "dedication" it takes long time. The increase on attack is just about 20-30 points per attack so are you willing to go trough all those bounties for (up to 38) that little upgrade? why not just adding 2 or 3 nodes to the existing ones? the worst part could be that this will be an ongoing practice so they will do the same for any other DLCs, I know they want to keep us playing but give us content do not SLAVE us to the grind! If you have not seen the weapons and armor check this out: http://www.accelerated-ideas.com/news/destiny-dark-below-dlc--new-exotic-weapons-armour-and-raid-gear.aspx

        • I only have one exotic weapon, Truth; therefore, am either lucky or cursed depending on how you look at it. I can see both sides of the discussion; agree that both parties ("Just add addt'l nodes to increase to the new damage level" and "I'm in it for the long haul and don't mind re-leveling my weapons") have valid points.

        • So Deej has a post up now that shows Thorn starting at 302 which should be the new base for all exotics. If that is the case then the new base already tops the max for our old exotics so when we trade up we are already ahead. Only complaint is missing the perks we love (like invis on Patience and Time). It seems even less of an issue now that we know the new base damage compensates for losing the levelling.

            • I think it sucks. They could have just added to the upgrade tree. Also, I have almost completed the Thorn bounty. If I wait to turn it in til after Tuesday will it be at the new level? So I guess the question is. What about the exotics acquired post dlc launch? Where do they start?

It won't take as long to level exotics after the DLC and I don't really work on more than one exotic at a time anyhow. Exotics don't take all that long to power level now if you use telemetry. I'd rather be able to upgrade my 300 damage guns and continue using them as apposed to having to get all new guns and scrapping the old ones. Plus you don't have to do it if you don't want to.

              • I'm ok with it. You dont have to do it if you dont want...But who wouldn't? Plus they are saying it won't take as long to level exotics up anymore, so hopefully thats true.

              • Mixed feelings here. Yea, I'll have to level the same weapons I choose to upgrade all over again, but its like getting a new gun with better stats. On the other hand, I wonder what the reaction would have been if they had just chose to introduce stronger weapons with no option to upgrade old ones. Would there be all this commotion? I think it won't be a topic in a month, just like the random selection of teleporting in the raid.

              • I have mixed feelings. Yeah, it sucks that I have to upgrade them all over again. But also glad they don't fall behind or hold me back. Just makes me want to get a third character to upgrade the weapons faster. My only concern is some of the Playstation timed exclusive weapons. If xur is going to offer the same upgrades across all platforms, will that delay my hawkmoon upgrade?

              • Change is change, we won't know if it's good or bad until the end of December or early January to be honest. I like that at the core Bungie is actively engaging the community they've created to constantly make better, even if it means some bumps along the way. And if reddit is freaking out it's ok, the world is not ending and you don't have to go back to playing COD.

                • I like it for the duplicate Exotic Weapons and unleveled Exotics I have. As for my Exotic armors i think it sucks that the progress resets. Thankfully I have some Raid gear leveled up enough as well as legendary weapons to not lose much of a level. Hopefully the reset Exotics do actually level up faster like I heard but I'm not holding my breath.

                • Honestly i like the overall idea, using exotic mats to upgrade exotics and legendary mats for legendary weapons, i remember when they upgraded ascendant stuff to legendary and this seems like a similar thing. As for the reseting the lvling progress to upgrade old exotics to the new lvl? I dont like that atm at all, i only feel lucky that i have held back from lvling all my exotics to the current max lvl otherwise i would feel very stitched up. I can see the big picture objectively though and i think its the right way to go, imagine how much better the experience will be for new players in a weeks time compared to our slightly shaky experience so far.
