Overwhelmed...

Hey guys. Kind of feel like I'm spinning my wheels in Destiny. Played the base story but don't know how to get better gear and don't know what areas of the game to invest my time in. Any direction/tips much appreciated.

  • If your done with story do the bounties and strike playlist and keep grinding. It gets better, focus on one group at a time, you'll make it.

    1. Play story from beginning to end (including strikes.) 2. Do vanguard bounties each day + crucible bounties if your into PvP. 3. After reaching Lvl 20, focus on raising Vanguard Reputation to Rank 2. Do this with bounties, patrols, dailies, weeklies and nightfall. Also complete at least (1) 3 Gold Star Public Event each day. Use destinypublicevents.com to find the location of the events. 4. Once, you reach Vanguard Rank 2, buy legendary armor you like. This will only get you to Lvl 28 or 29. To get to 30, you must have at least 3 Raid Legendary armor pieces + 1 exotic or 4 Raid Legendary armor pieces. You can tell the difference between normal Legendary and Raid Legendary because Raid Legendary have a maximum Light of +30 as opposed to +27 for Normal Legendary armor. Xur visits the Tower each Friday and Saturday and often sells Exotic armor. Pick up a piece from him. I recommended a helmet as the only way to get the Raid helmet is from the Hard Raid which is obviously more difficult and there is no guarantee it will even drop. 5. Once you reach Lvl 26/27 try the raid every so often as you will get raid gear and some cool weapons with elemental damage. You can also do Vanguard Tiger strikes to get Vanguard marks and gear. The reason I say to use the Vanguard over the other factions is because I feel Vanguard marks are easier to attain than Crucible marks.

  • You need to hit lvl 20. After that you have a few paths, you need to partake in vanguard, that has been suggested already, or you can partake in the crucible. It's not hard to get rep and marks, it's just a grind. Same deal as vanguard, you can get armor at rank 2 with the crucible dudes. They are the ones right by your class mentor you met at the beginning of the game. Your mentor also sells the vanguard armor. The two on the way in sell the crucible junk. Third option is join a faction. You do this by seeking them out and buying a class item from them,I.e. Titan mark/ guardian cloak etc. after that all you do gains your rep with that faction. You will need crucible marks to buy armor from them once you hit rank two. Two ways to get marks. You can grind it out in pvp, or you can farm materials and exchange them for marks from the crucible dudes. Then give them to your faction. Every rank passed rank 2 with crucible, vanguard, or faction, get you one of their specific weapons or armor. All legendary. You also want to spend some time on getting your crypt arch rank up. This means getting engrams and taking them in. Once you hit level 10 with the crypt arch, he will start turning your blue engrams into purple gear. The chance goes up, the higher you level him and every time you do level him up, he gives you free junk. Once you hit about level 27, hit me up and I'll run the raid with you. At least the vault of glass. Weekly strikes, night falls, and daily strikes are a must. Let me know if you need help. I'm on ps3 phil_me81

  • You want to get to level 20. Make that your goal if your not there yet. If you played thru the whole story you should be pretty close. Once you hit level 20 it's all about playing and playing until you can either afford to buy better gear or you can earn it on rare drops during play. It can be a grind. I recommend doing the daily stories and strikes for both XP and the possibility of gear drops. Hope this puts a little traction in your wheels.
