For me it was a no brainer. I don't have as much time to play as most so using the alts gives me more time to play with the good gear I've got.

Edited by F1Cheetor: 12/19/2014 7:03:35 AMWow, excellent post that I'm glad I stumbled on here. I greatly appreciated everyone's replies on doubling or not to double up on the same character and it's benefits. I'll need to share this with my daughter so that we can both level up a bit faster with our respective classes.

I have three Hunters. I've played a warlock and didn't like it. I like the Hunter class. It fits my style of play. Having three also allows me to continue to help others while making progress. If bungie cared about us playing the same class it would have been patched before Atheon. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I run 2 hunters and 1 titan basically started a titan because I kept getting titan gear when cashing in legendary engrams, started my second hunter because I had double gear for my primary hunter....I say do what you like...if you don't like titan scrap it or if leveling 2 characters is more work than fun just run 1... Have fun with the time you do get to spend playing destiny.

If you mostly PvP light level doesn't mean anything as everything 20+ is normalized. I only run one main and will be lv31 once I get enough shards. All the gear I needed to achieve this I got in one week. I play 2-3 hours a day, 4-5 days a week with a regular fire team. We do nightfall, heroic and dailies and then whatever else. Have yet to raid. I do have a lv25 Titan, but that's just cause I leveled it to 20 in the first 2 weeks and had all this Titan armor in my bank. I even have a full set of warlock gear that's prolly lv30 gear. I've thought about it but really only have time for the one main.

Same schedule with me . I run two titans . Both do the heroic and nightfall and first Gold Tier Public Event . But I one working Crucible and special events and the other focused on Vanguard and Factions. Both share the gear . Third spot is for a warlock to get the trophy .

This is great question and a real dilemma I faced. I too originally felt that Bungie wanted us to play multiple classes and that seemed obvious from the fact that my Warlock had a full set of Titan legendary gear from engrams and drops before his own gear. But I never thought I had the time to run multiple characters at all: 3x nightfalls, heroics, dailies and bounties just seemed too much, especially since we already played the same stuff over and over in the Vanguard strikes. A different reason prompted me to create a 2nd warlock: Once I beat the raid I kept helping other dads in the same week but would get nothing at all for it. I figured I might as well create another Warlock and share the armor and guns so that I could do a second run on normal and hard while helping others since I would help myself as well. In the first week I was able to get full raid gear and hit 30 just because of the drops across both characters. Now one is 31 and the other is 30 and decked in full VoG raid gear to run that mainly. I do my best not to take on anything but easy bounties with my 2nd character and specifically focus on leveling up armor and guns which means twice as fast as running one character. I think of it more as having copy to ensure I am maximizing the benefits of my play time when I help others. 2 hour raid with only the first chest mattering is not my idea of efficiency. I decided that I should have a PvP focused character and went with a Hunter because of golden gun and had saved the Hunter pieces that dropped (I still have the Titan armor). So my Hunter will enter Iron Banner and then try out Crota's End in due time.

My first/main character is a hunter (blade dancer), then I made a titan. After that I deleted about 6 warlock and hunter characters none ever getting above level 6. Mostly because I didn't enjoy the low level warlock and was unsure of the look of the characters. Finally decided to roll with a second hunter (gunslinger). Got that second hunter to level 27. It was easy as I could give all of my extra gear from first hunter. But my friend and son who run warlocks said, they are awesome if you get them leveled. So I finally deleted my second hunter and moved her gear to my main hunter. I am glad I did. My Warlock is very powerful and a lot of fun to play at higher level, currently level 29. My hunter is closing in on level 31 but I have her dual-spec, both subclasses are maxed and I have all the exotic helmets to benefit both classes. I find myself switching between gunslinger/arc blade and arachnid/mask of the third man helmets a lot depending on what I am fighting. My hunter is still my favorite to play but my warlock has moved past my 28 titan as far as fun playing. I know I probably didn't help your dilemma. But it's up to you and what you want to do and the amount of gaming time you have. I have done it both ways I guess but I do get a lot of gaming in. You can use multiple characters to gear one by making same class. But it has been fun to get one of each class to the higher levels.

I've wondered why people play multiple characters of the same class. I guess I don't get it. What do you mean when you say that it is a means to maximize your time? I've always wondered what the benefits are, but haven't given it much thought. Thanks, ACOG

I have multiple titans I use. And it helps to Lvl up much faster. But I am a primary PvE guy. So being able to raid and weekly's multiple times a week is huge for shards and getting armor. Plus it allows you to focus purchasing armor for 1 character. Like most Dads on here time is limited. Trying to get the time to purchase, get ascendant materials and Lvl up multiple sets of armor just isn't in the cards for me.
