Benadryl

Be careful with Benadryl. You may get recommendations to use it but kids can react two ways. They can fall asleep like little angles and not bother anyone or they can turn into a hyperactive creature that will make you believe possession is real! I flew to Egypt with my infant nephew once. If the flight is not packed that is fantastic. Room to move helps a ton. Have the favorite toys, books, and movies loaded on iPad or iPod with headphones. We lucked out and our flight to Paris for the connection wasn't packed and had a whole row he could play in.

Walk the isles when he gets restless (which he will). I probably walked 5 miles coming back from England when my daughter was a toddler ;) got funny looks but at least she was happy & not screaming

I'm a single parent and I took my exceedingly active 5 year old boy to Scotland , from the states, by myself. Make sure you have something for them to play with, a tablet with some games and movies is a great idea. Get a good pair of headphones (not earphones) that will be comfy for the kid. Bring snacks that you could possibly use as rewards for being good, use the aisles for walking up and down in - won't wear them out, but they can stretch their legs. Coloring books is a good idea too. My big thing is, don't take too much crap, you'll find you wont use it, I stick with the tablet and heaphones...you can always pick up a small treat at an airport too - which makes it a new and exciting toy, rather than the same old. If you start bringing toys you are going to lose them - and nobody wants that.

If you can, take the late night flight. That way everyone will be asleep and hopefully, so would your toddler. Also be prepared for the worst. When my daughter was 2 yrs old, she developed a fever just as we were boarding a long flight. Lets just say there was much crying and lack of sleep.. Other than that, just do the usual.. bring their favorite toys, snacks, books. Also make sure they drink or chew on something during takeoff and landing when the air pressure changes.

First of all good luck! With that said just know they there will be a few meltdowns for sure. Even as an adult a flight they long drives me nuts. You may get a few looks but know that the parents on that flight will understand. . And if they don't f them anyways! You'll have the time of your life when you finally arrive. .. until is time to come home lol! Keep us posted though

This will be tough cause you won't be able to pack any snacks or juice cups prior to the gate due to security. Doesn't mean you can't bring an empty cup to fill behind security or hunt down snacks (probably unhealthy ones) as well. Also depending on the flight you will know the toddler's schedule best and if it is near the nap/bedtime I would recommend trying to keep them perpetually worn out so they are more restive in general in regards to travel. You'll probably have some lay overs in various locales so try to make any stop into a fun adventure and roll with the punches. Toddler balance is best achieved by focusing their attention, this is harder the more hungry, tired, or uncomfortable they are. So keep that in mind.
