I don't think the decision for this new currency came completely from Bungie... Activision has had ridiculous DLCs and micro-transactions before. Bungie has their name applied publicly, so anything bad that happens in Destiny is inferred directly to them. And they may be apologizing for what Activision is pressuring them to do. I could be wrong though... you video makes a very good point.

To be honest I would rather have to buy a dlc and have the emotes included in it rather than nickel and dime for things I will probably never use. I understand where you're coming from on your video. And I agree with you on consumer logic and the gullibility of the human brain that a lot of people use. I would also rather they didn't do micro transactions because to people who are morally against or don't have the money for that, it could be one of those things that they save up for and then in the next up date be completely obsolete. And then what? I highly doubt they'll give you a refund. Sorry if you weren't looking for replies and if I started rambling at the end.
