passing through high earth,
wet air and smooth skinned
powder sighs painted grey;
immigrants put on
their best suits for church,
the virgin mary is still alive,
she's on drugs, handwriting
vigor into a landfill;
vandalising with soft smiles
and shelter early in the street;
spavined familiarity
through the nauseous
flick of a pop song,
smothered beneath
damp, igneous vapours;
cigarettes and searching strangers[/quote]

Well, I'm awful at interpreting such heavily metaphorical pieces. This seems oppressive to me. Probably because of the low clouds, wetness, church, Mary on drugs, vandalising. Don't really understand much else about it, unfortunately.

A 'fight the power' theme? It didn't fit the song for me, though.
