The development and publishing teams at EA will collaborate with the creative teams at Lucasfilm. As part of the agreement, EA studio teams DICE (Battlefield series) and Visceral (Dead Space series) will join BioWare (Mass Effect series, Star Wars: The Old Republic) in the development of new Star Wars games.
This is very good news due to EA's impressive track record of making high quality games and embracing new ideas to create breakthrough games that explore new concepts.

I don't really see how this is anything but good news. When Lucas Arts went under, I said that it could be a good thing because they hadn't done anything worthwhile in a long time and this could be an opportunity for good Star Wars games to be made again. DICE, Visceral and BioWare are basically the three most capable developers EA have. And also note that:
While EA studios will develop for the core Star Wars gaming audience, Disney Interactive will focus on delivering new Star Wars games for casual audiences on mobile, social, tablet, and online gaming platforms.
What does that tell us? EA is tasking their better developers with making proper Star Wars games while Disney retains the rights to more casual games. Let's be honest, EA is an awful company, but they publish some good games. This is why I think Star Wars is in better hands now than it was when Lucas Arts was in control. EA's issue has never been about publishing bad games, it's been about using terrible business practices. So while it's not an ideal situation, it's probably a considerably better situation than it was before.

From the line up of current vaporware games, DICE does Battlefront III, BioWare does 1313, which was supposed to be an RPG of sorts, and I don't know what Visceral will do, but I'm looking forward too it. Not happy about EA, but the actual devs show potential.

I want to be happy that Star Wars games will continue to be made, but...idk I just can't. woohoo....here comes battlefront 3 guys, EA knows that game is going to bring in sales....and then battlefront 4....and then 5...and 6...with launch dlc...yay...

Good, maybe we'll finally get a proper KOTOR 3 now.

So..the last nail in the coffin has been hammered in. Farewell to thee, Star Wars.

Edited by lVlzone: 5/7/2013 1:05:37 PMOn Twitter, Origin is taking advice/suggestions on what games people want. They said Battlefront III has been suggested a lot and that has been noted. They also said something about it running on the Frostbite 3 engine.

Edited by Not The Joker: 5/7/2013 12:56:58 PMI feel like every decision Disney is making with Star Wars is specifically designed to piss me off.

Sweet Jesus Mother of Mary this news made me have to change pants. DICE for Battlefront 3? -blam!- yes. Visceral for a new Star Wars IP that is all gritty and shit? -blam!- yes. Bioware helming a new Star Wars RPG? -blam!- yes. Star Wars movies in 2015? -blam!- yes. I -blam!-ing love Star Wars.
-
Guess I will never get Battlefront 3 now. On the off chance we do, we'll have to always be online (except the servers won't work the first whole month,) deal with game breaking glitches that should have been iced in development, and take out many features that were in the first two games. That doesn't even touch upon all the DLC bullshit they will pull. However, that hopefully won't happen and we can remember the Battlefront series fondly. Maybe EA will outright tell us that it sees no profit in Battlefront. Ironically, I think I'd rather hear that at this point.

Son they're taking up all these games and they still won't finish Mirror's Edge 2!?!? What is wrong with these people!
-
I've got a good feeling that BF III and 1313 may be picked up by them. Battlefront III is so similar to Battlefield that I can't imagine not making it, or something similar to it.
-
If Bioware picked up Battlefront that would be pretty sweet.
-
Good aspects of this: DICE - best developer choice for Battlefront III, they do conquest games the best. Visceral- good developer for grittier, darker Star Wars games (Think 1313, may it RIP). BioWare- SWTOR anyone? Welcome back, babe. Bad aspects of this: EA EA servers

I kinda just want Elder Scrolls Online to come out. .-.

Star Wars the Clone Wars cartoon cancelled Star Wars episode VII EA making Star Wars games . . .

Looks like you spelled the word "ruin" wrong in your title.

HELL YA! I love EA. In fact most of my games are either published or made by them.
-
I predict the gaming industry is heading for another crash that will once again be resurrected by Nintendo.
-
While a game from the developers mentioned might actually be pretty interesting, EA is a horrible company and whoever the hell picked them for this is retarded.

Oh good god in heaven...
