Marathon Infinity (Aleph One) help thread

If you are interested in playing Bungie's classic Marathon games, but need help getting them up and running, here is a quick guide that should help. Feel free to ask questions and I'll do my best to answer them as quickly as possible. I know some people are also interested in the Xbox live version of Marathon, but the PC version is 100% free and it has way more maps to play on. For now, I'll just do the PC version as it is the most popular. If you need help with the Mac version, don't hesitate to ask. There is a Linux version too, but chances are if you run Linux, you can figure Marathon out on your own. Step 1: Downloading Aleph One and Marathon Infinity You will need to download two separate files. Head over to marathon.sourceforge.net. From there, select the Marathon scenario you'd like to download. In this case, we'll go with Marathon Infinity as it is the most popular version used for multiplayer games. Click the download link that corresponds to your operating system, in this case Windows. It will take you to the download page, where after 5 seconds or so, your download should automatically start. If it doesn't for some reason, there will be a direct download link you can click. Congratulations, you've just downloaded MarathonInfinity-20150620-Win.zip. It contains all the scenario files like the campaign and multiplayer maps. The second file you need is Aleph One. It's the program that allows the Marathon games to run on modern computers. Head to the Download Aleph One page and select the version corresponding to your operating system, again Windows. It will take you to another download page, where again, after 5 seconds or so, your download should automatically start. You should now have downloaded the AlephOne-20150620-Win.zip file. Step 2: Installing Aleph One and Marathon Infinity Now that you have the files downloaded you will need to extract them. You can put them in "Program Files" if you want, but I run mine from the desktop and it works just fine. First, right click on the MarathonInfinity-20150620-Win.zip and select "extract all." This will create a folder containing all the Marathon Infinity scenario files. Next, right click and select "extract all" on the AlephOne-20150620-Win.zip file. This will create a folder containing the Aleph One program. In this folder, there should be a few folders and a file called AlephOne.exe. Ignore the folders, and just copy the AlephOne.exe file and paste it into the folder with all the Marathon Infinity Scenario files in it. Double click the AlephOne.exe, and Marathon Infinity should start right up. Step 3: Joining a Multiplayer game Marathon games are hosted via a website called lhowon.org. You can get a login through that site, but you can also play as a guest. First, you'll need to set your login info. To do that, fire up the game and from the main menu go Preferences > Internet. It should bring you to this page, where you should input the info in the picture, then hit accept. Next, from the main menu, select Join Network Game. It will bring you to this page. Follow the instructions in the picture to join the multiplayer lobby. The lobby should look like this. Select the game and click the JOIN button. Hopefully this helps anyone interested in playing Marathon via Aleph One. If you have any questions or need any help, please post them here or PM me and I'll do my best to solve your issues. One extra note, if the host has a map file you don't have, you absolutely do not need to download it in order to join the game. You'll only need the map file if you want to watch a saved film of that game.
