Will Your Armor/Guns Effect The Game?

Will your armor actually make a difference in strength or the modifications on your gun increase your damage? How do you feel about it, if so?

  • Well of course, the standard light, medium and heavy armor, sub machine guns with high rate of fire, low accuracy and low damage, assault rifles with short to medium range, medium accuracy and medium damage, shotguns with high damage and short range, sniper rifles with long range, high damage and high accuracy. The usual artillery. Then if we will get laser/plasma weapons it will change alot of the above said, plasma is high damage, slow firing whilst laser would be medium damage and have a fast rate of fire, it's all about the imagination :)

  • Sure fire yes it will happen, and absolutely I am happy about it. Personalization of the characters through armor and equipment is a necessity. Characteristics of the player itself will also be customizable, which should be done with extensive skill trees that require specific accomplishments to unlock.

  • I Really Hope So I would really like the Skyrim System Armor for example the Titan that uses heavy armor well then that's makes that class slower that the Hunter or Warlock but gives them a little more resistance to damage.

  • Guns should absolutely modify how much damage you deal, they're guns, that's what they do >_> As for the aesthetic armor making a difference for your stats, I'm on the fence. On one hand, it would be cool to see a player with a particular armor set and be able to identify that "Oh hey, that player is building Energy at the cost of Agillity!", but on the other, I can imagine that many players would want aesthetics and stats to not be linked.

  • I'd say the armor might make a difference. However, if there were gun modifications, then they would /need/ to make a difference, else they'd be irrelevant. Otherwise, yeah, your guns do effect the game. Can't progress without killing some baddies. ;D

  • Do you think we will have armor pick ups, like the hologram tech from halo reach???

  • I hope so. If it was all just aesthetic, it'd be kind of boring.

    • My theory is that your armor is going to effect your health and movement because of a little visual research I did from the vidoc... http://www.bungie.net/en-us/Forum/Post?id=59868017

      • The only thing im worried about is having a World of Warcraft Time to Kill...its an FPS so it shouldnt take 10 seconds to kill one guy...thats the only thing thatll kill some hype for me.

        • I personally would rather have a Halo tactics-style shooter than a borderlands stat-style shooter. But, I can see the appeal of both. (Dat big number generation)

          • If this was the case I think I would be upset by it. I like the Idea that someone who just got the game can contend with someone who has had and played it for a long time.

            • I have a feeling that everything will effect your characters stats for the more co-op interactions but if there is a more Halo-esque PvP style Bungie will probably give different options for a more uniform style and a custom one. Because while obviously there are many who will want very carefully balanced PvP there will also be many who want to go fight others with their own equipment gathered through their own hard work.

              • I would prefer if the game was free of "stats" as much as possible, and by that I mean stuff like critical hit probability or accuracy percentages or strength modifiers. Whatever else it may be, this is being sold as an FPS first, so it should really favor skill-based gameplay over number-crunching. I fully agree with gear he4d7 that an experienced player and a noob should be on even footing, except of course for the punishing level of skill the experienced player has honed over time. That said, I think it would be great to see functional variations for the different gear. I keep looking at just the helmet options and thinking each one should be specialized for things like zoom distance, target acquisition, night vision, or infra-red. That level of modding could of course apply to the rest of the armor and weapons, too. I'd honestly be a little disappointed if the variations were only cosmetic.

                • I'm assuming that armor will be purely cosmetic. The weapons, however, I think will be totally customizable from a cosmetic standpoint (colors), and that will not have an effect; But, I think we will be able to add attachments and mods to our weapons that modify how the weapon performs so we can build our gear to to suit our playstyle. As far as "more strength" as you phrased it, I think we will be able to get "Skill Points" when we level up, so we can customize our health, "mana", and powers to our liking.
