A lot of articles seem to reference the contract between Bungie and Activision, and it reveals that there will be 4 games in all, but what sort of caught my attention is that Destiny will be released for PS3, Xbox 360, as well as the yet to be released Xbox 720?
In this link it mentions that all 3 consoles will have Destiny. Is it me, or does that not make sense? I think it would either be available for Xbox 360 or the successor console, but not both. But perhaps I am not as schooled in the ways of game releases. Thoughts?

Edited by John978: 2/24/2013 8:02:36 AMYeah the game will be released to both PS3, Xbox 360 and PS4. But then again we got this: "Source code on Bungie's website for upcoming game includes Xbox 720, PS4, PC, PlayStation Vita, and Wii U." http://www.gamespot.com/destiny/videos/gs-news-destiny-preorder-page-lists-xbox-720-ps4-6404134/ Now there's something to think about.

It makes sense to have it on the current & new consoles. Not everyone can afford the new tech. So they are appealing to all, you shouldn't have to miss out simply because you don't want to be forced to outlay cash on a new console. I will be buying it on either the PS4 or Next XBOX. But its great people with current gen can still enjoy the game. Bungie did say 'World Domination"

720 since it will be able to load larger regions and play better overall. While the 360 (and PS3) will have smaller zones on planets the 720 (and PS4) will be able to combine those regions into larger ones. It will be the same game but smoother and more fluid on the next generation consoles.

Edited by PYRES VII: 2/27/2013 3:20:07 PMWhile I agree with you at same time think of the people that will not be able to buy the next-gen consoles because of the cost. So its better to please everyone :). Its a great move for sales.

So, when you see an Xbox 720, are you supposed to turn 720 degrees and walk away?
-
There has to be a steady transition of phasing out the current-gen consoles. For about 1 1/2 years after the next-gen consoles are released, many games will be made for both current and next-gen platforms to maximize game sales and not completely abandon the consumers who don't have the money to buy a brand new console. Destiny will have great graphics but will not be using the full extent of the Xbox "720" or PS4 power until a sequel is released because like I said before, Destiny will be made for current-gen consoles in mind.

What's an xbox 720? (jk, but I seriously hate that everyone has adopted that ridiculous name for the next xbox. Just call it the Durango until they tell us the actual production name... sheesh) I imagine they are going to have a version of the game with dumbed down graphics for the current gen consoles and save the spectacular awe-inspiring vistas and explosions for the next gen edition. But like you said, it doesn't make sense!

I think releasing Destiny on Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 would be a great move, if the game allows both sides to play with each other. A "true" bridge in the gaming world. Then again if it doesn't, it still would be cool to have a Halo- ish title on PS3.

its because not many will get 720 straight away it will cost a fortune so they want to allow everyone to play

>There's a 720

I have a feeling that they'll put the game on the best coming and best now consoles. They make games to make a profit(dont get me wrong some of them i'm sure just want people to have a great time playing Bunji Games) so, If it only comes out on the "Xbox 720" they will miss out on a lot of revenue. I can tell you that i am not going to buy the "720" when it comes out. I bought the original 360 and i can tell they suck, i love 360 but it sucks compaired to todays 360(its an arcade). So with those two variables, it only comes out on that and the first "720" will suck it wont make near as much as it could. My final opinion is that it will be out on the 360, 720, Maybe Ps4 (i still dont no if they are gonna pull another halo and not make it on Ps's), and even Ps3

Here is their reasoning... at least the best I can see it. At the start of every console generation the consumer base always starts slowly relatively speaking. To make up for that... the best way to market the game and make money, is to make the game for both and allow the people from old console to new play together. It allows people to upgrade to the new console when they are able and everyone can keep up with their friends.

Well i do agree with you in a way as to save revenue in the the gaming industry but take into consideration those who do not have enough money to be able to purchase the newest and greatest in technology, bungie simply doesn't want those who cant afford the console to be able to miss out on the experience ... my opinion but that's not to say that they are hindering those with more revenue for them to spend as frugally as there heart desires and increasing there experience. Then again its another way for bungie to get more income in there sales

Neither SNES and Xbox original

I thought I saw mentioned that it would also be on the Wii. But probably after at a later date.

New Console or not it's best to wait for them to iron out the bugs before running off to buy it. I have a fairly new Xbox 360 slim and I'm not really going to throw it out for the 720 till I feel I got my money's worth. But now that Destiny is on the Playstation and it really lives up to the hype, well then the Sony becomes a pretty appealing next generation console to invest in if they keep their online service free.

Not everyone will buy the new Xbox, especially if it's very expensive, so making The Next Halo only available to a few people would be a bad move. Giving players the option to buy for the 360 allows everyone to have fun but at the same time saying "you have no idea what you're missing out on this console, because it looks/sounds/plays SO GOD DAMN MUCH MORE BETTER BEST", which might make a few people buy the new console. Clearly, I have no idea how marketing works.

Interesting how it doesn't mention the PS4
