Men may now think twice about reaching for a razor. A new study shows that facial hair says a lot about a man and that attractiveness peaks at the "heavy stubble" phase. Researchers photographed 10 men at four stages of beard growth: clean shaven, 5-day "light" stubble, 10-day "heavy" stubble (shown), and fully bearded. Three hundred and fifty-one women and 177 heterosexual men viewed the photos and rated each face for attractiveness, masculinity, health, and parenting ability. Women ranked heavily stubbled faces as the most attractive. Participants said that the clean-shaven men looked about as healthy and attractive as those with a full beard, but rated the bearded men higher for perceived parenting skills. Light stubble got the short end of the stick, garnering low scores across the board from both men and women. The 5-day growth may be too patchy, the researchers write in the May issue of Evolution and Human Behavior, which suggests "a threshold of density and distribution may be necessary for beards to function as an attractive signal." Stubble conveys maturity and manliness, they write, with less of the macho aggressiveness implied by a full beard.
Business in front, party in back.

Edited by Aporia: 7/15/2013 2:20:51 AMMy family can't grow beards, just random silly tufts here and there. Hell, I have weird Eastern European half-eyebrows too. I'm thinking of getting a fake beard because I'm not a real man.
-
I don't like to grow my beard out anymore, plus the hair on my cheeks grows much more slowly so it takes me an extra few weeks to get an even full beard. Now I just keep it trimmed down to stubble, which is apparently good. So I'm happy.
-
That's good, I generally stick with a heavy stubble look anyhow.
-
I'd love to see myself with more facial hair, because I definitely have the capabilities to do it, but that intermediate phase where you look like an idiot... I don't think I'm willing to put myself through it.
-
Beards are god's gift to women after all.

>full lumberjack beard >Slowly turning into Elder Beard GOML BRUV

Wait, what the hell is 5-day stubble. If I didn't shave for 5 days, I'd almost have a beard.
-
but I love being clean shaven...
-
Did we really need a study to know this?
-
This was already common knowledge.
-
Perfect amount
-
depends on how fast it grows, mine looks best before it gets too heavy
-
-
I've always heard that women didn't like facial hair
-
I thought this was common knowledge. This news sucks for anyone who can't grow facial hair.
-
Obviously.
-
I noticed that today after I shaved.
-
I just read about this.

Edited by Bolt: 7/13/2013 6:17:05 PMIt's because stubble is prickly and women love little pricks.
-
>would love a beard but everything except my 'burns is patchy as -blam!-
-
wait, men actually leave themselves beardless? that's dumb
-
Beard of any form > everything else in this universe
