Halo: Escalation

[created by Moa to serve as a single thread for discussing the kick ass comic] Issue #1
The UNSC flagship Infinity is assigned escort duty for a diplomatic mission between the Arbiter and a powerful chieftain of the Brute tribes—but when a rogue Covenant group attacks, it’s going to take all the firepower the Spartans have to keep the delegates alive!
Issue #2
As Sarah Palmer fights to get the Arbiter and the Brute Ambassador to safety, Captain Lasky sneaks behind enemy lines to reestablish communications with the UNSC Infinity. Their plans for escape are jeopardized, however, by a turncoat in their midst!
Issue #3
Commander Palmer confronts the traitor who has betrayed her team, as the Covenant closes in on their position. With time running out, Lasky is forced to make a costly sacrifice to save the peace delegation from the impending attack.
Issue #4
The UNSC Infinity is ambushed by an unexpected enemy while on a mission to rescue a damaged civilian freighter. Across the galaxy, an undercover Lasky enlists the help of an old friend in rooting out a spy inside the UNSC.
Issue #5
Missing for thirty years, a legendary UNSC warship is discovered deep behind enemy lines. As Infinity plans a rescue mission, however, Admiral Hood’s past with the ship’s captain threatens to jeopardize the mission. The investigation into the UNSC saboteur continues as the journalist infiltrates an Elite holy land in search of answers.
Issue #6
The saga of Halo Wars enters the modern age as Infinity struggles to liberate the long-lost Spirit of Fire from the deadly Vata 'Gajat. Meanwhile, Petra's search for the identity of Infinity's spy could result in her death. The Halo universe is on the brink of a new galactic war! [img]
• So why did Schlerf leave again?

 • Right, loving the plot, and the mixture of original trilogy/Halo 4 designs, but the quality of the artwork really puts me off sometimes.

 • Best Halo comic series (not that it had a great deal of competition, considering most of the others were...kind of shit *COUGH* Uprising *COUGH*). You can tell that it's Schlerf who is writing it throughout because it perfectly encapsulates a good number of those human themes introduced in Halo 4. Scruggs telling Palmer that "I am a Spartan. But what you fight for isn't always the same as who you fight for", echoes just about everything said in A Hero Awakens where Kiki/Chris/Josh all make their agenda regarding the development of Halo's story clear - making us question what it means to be a hero and whether the sacrifice is worth it. It's no wonder that we see that parallel imagery of Palmer standing where John stood on the observation deck following the death of somebody close, and I am genuinely engaging with palmer in this series. "Tom, you're one of my closest friends. But right now, you need to get the hell away from me..." This is what I want to see! Not the cookie-cutter commander replacement for Johnson, but this strong and independent woman who is a capable leader who has to make sacrifices which leave a lasting impression on her. She's starting to see that it's not simply a case of "orders are orders", that this is actually a very real conflict where nobody is safe - I was genuinely surprised that DeMarco was killed off, it was a ballsy decision by Schlerf but it damn well worked. And Scruggs states that there are more than just two sides at work (YES!), I am bloody loving this series. I really am, it's the perfect way to keep us tided over month-by-month over the course of a year.
