How the times have changed

When internet was young we used to go there for gaming or to use msn messenger and small forums on the fringe. Later google, myspace, youtube and twitter were formed. With rising popularity and usage sites like facebook came, pinterest, reddit etc. Building their popularity on the basic function of old websites. Like reddit did with digg, rendering their former counterpart obsolete. So flood how has the internet changed for you as you spent your time on here? Were there things or gems you found in the past that are now lost to the flow of time? How have the communities changed and their views by those outside? For me i remember how sites like youtube used to be a niche crowd where user generated content was what created it. It felt humble, until time went by and it became a search engine or an advertising site. Some things ruined it some made it better. What was lost though was the community and things like rickastley never gonna give you up or as other will say. Rickrolling. Bnet was also different. With bans and locks such as the chaos of porch day etc. When people started shitposting but the aftermath was a hilarious thing to see and i would laugh at the locks and bans going around. Also i somehow strangely miss the banhammer and seeing it being wielded and layed upon the plebians was fun. Somehow facing it was also a nostalgic feeling. TLDR: How has the internet changed? What do you miss of the times of old? Any feelings of nostalgia?

The death of dial-up was a huge change for me. Going from Windows 95 to Windows XP to Windows 7 has been a big change in my core computer experience. I remember the cheap flash games on CartoonNetwork's website giving me as much enjoyment as high-production video games do today. I remember thinking Youtube was a high risk virus website back in 2006. I remember Albino Black Sheep, Ebaumsworld, and Newgrounds being my main source of videos and animations. I remember Google Videos being in competition with Youtube, now ironically Google owns Youtube. AIM was the big social connection and being in someone's top ten on Myspace was a big deal. Everything is more convenient these days but seemingly less enjoyable :/
