The news article isn't very long, so I'll just copy that out here. Details seem to be.. scarce.
A Brazilian police officer playing a prank on a colleague by simulating a hold-up has been shot and killed.
An officer in the city of Rondonopolis was pulling out of his garage to go to work, when his friend rode up on a motorcycle wearing a helmet saying it was a hold-up.
The officer in the car drew his gun and fired several shots into his friend's stomach.
When he realised it was his friend, he rushed him to a hospital, but it was too late.
It doesn't say anything about whether or not the victim was carrying a weapon, so I assume that there wasn't one involved. Given what little information there is, do you think shooting someone several times is necessary in said situation? Do you think the cop who shot his mate should be accountable for his actions?

Dead guys fault. How can you be that stupid? Who the -blam!- thinks that is a prank?

Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you...

You are armed, and you have about one second to react. What do you do? Too late, you are dead. We don't have the luxury of deciding the boundaries between appropriate force and inappropriate force in these stressful situations, we simply decide fight or flight.

/facepalm

Pranks are best when they don't involve fake crimes.

The world just got a new An Hero. What a great day.

Wow, what a moron the prankster was...
-
Shoot to kill is all I have to say here

I think that you are misidentifying the victim. The victim is not the one with the bullets in his belly. The victim is the person who did nothing except react to someone else putting him into a situation where he felt that he had to defend himself using deadly force. If the idiot playing the prank had thought twice about attempting to simulate a robbery of someone who they know to be armed and decided, "Oh, this could be dangerous" then this event would never have happened. The person playing the "prank" should have reasonably forseen the danger and potentially harmful outcome of such a act and not caused the situation.

in America, we have a saying for this kind of thing...
play stupid games, get stupid prizes
Wow how stupid can you be? He knew his friend had a gun, why scare him to the point that he feels he needs to protect himself? Freaking idiot.
Do you think the cop who shot his mate should be accountable for his actions?
No he shouldn't. In Brazil a lot of people get "lighting" kidnapped. They kidnap you, take you to an ATM then take all the money they can get. Sometime they kill the person even when they do as they asked.

He kinda had it coming. For all we know he did have a gun since he was dumb enough to try and hold a police officer hostage. But there is too little details to make a full conclusion. No I don't think the officer should be held responsible.
-
If his friend had a gun and was pointing it at him, then I say he acted reasonably when he shot him. But if there was no gun then that was a huge overreaction.

Stupid. I don't know what the dude expected to get out of threatening a cop, but what happened shouldn't have been unexpected.
