Seems like 99% of the people I talk to or met want to end up in a dead end job earning $60,000 a year and living happily. I too also went to have a career that will never make me rich, but I want to be successful in terms of wealth so I will invest and work my ass off.
How come nobody ever tries to be a millionaire?
-
I'm not going to try to be one. I simply want a job I can enjoy, and a modest lifestyle that I can enjoy and become enriched in. Maybe I'll end up becoming a millionaire without trying. I may write a book with the intent of helping them, whether it be through entertainment or education. I'm considering becoming a teacher, maybe I'll end up teaching people who'll end up becoming millionaires. I'll find out what my future will be soon.

Edited by Rabid Grunt 4: 2/20/2013 10:00:33 PMI want to be happy. A fat wad of cash would be nice, but only because of the experiences it could get me. Being a doctor isnt exactly badly paid, but millionaire is kind of out of the question. I want my job not because of the pay cheque, but because I hope to enjoy it and, to an extent, help people.

I could be a millionaire in like a day through fraud and identity theft. But there's more to life, mango. I want to be loved, not necessarily wealthy.

Its not hard at all. Long story short I have been putting about 3,000$ in savings every year. And when I retire I will have over a million $ plus some other investments

Dunno. For me i am having second thoughts on college. Thinking of actually ditching, and go on a travel adventure. Though gonna have to up my stats on conversation. True getting money is hard, but if you can get day jobs or do a little bit of odd jobs here and there while traveling you could travel the world. Then afterwards when i have an idea what i want to do i will stop. I have a feeling this will be for 2 years of travel or maybe more. But first i need to collect enough money. A stupid idea but hey who cares.
The American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large fin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied, “only a little while.” The American then asked why he didn’t stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?” The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life.” The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat, and with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats. Eventually, you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually NYC where you will run your expanding enterprise.” The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this take?” To which the American replied, “15-20 years.” “But what then?” The American laughed and said that’s the best part. “When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions.” “Millions?” asked the fisherman, “Then what?” The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evening, sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos!” (Author Unknown)
My only goal is to live a happy and honest life, not make millions of pieces of paper that I have no need of.

Arent you the nerd who's going to try to be a surgeon? Anyways, by the time your done with everything you'll have like 350k debt that will take 10-25 years too pay off. Enjoy being 60 years old, wrinkly, saggy but rich. The best ways to get rich are the ways you don't hear about often and the business world. I'm going to be a fire fighter - Making 60k-150k a year working 10 days a month enjoying my life while you work 70 hour weeks getting 4 hours of sleep a night.

Well I plan on being the governor of California and having two terms so that should put me close to $1 million (stupid taxes) but I could move on to being a senator so that'd make me richer so yeah.

Me. I just need the freaking winning ticket...
-
Because I'd rather spend my life living happily than wasting it trying to get rich.
-
Because millions are pansy stuff, everyone knows the real game is at billionaire.
-
Because I have goals that are grounded to reality. I may make friends that are wealthy, but will I be wealthy? Probably not.
-
If I were a millionaire, I would give away money.

when i win mlg dallas with my team and get the 1 million dollars i will be

I could spend 12 years in school, become an ophthalmologist, and take over my mom's business that pulls in about a million a year. Of course, with the inevitable socialization of medicine this will be a lot less so it might not be worth the time I spend. If I decide not to pursue that path, I'm going to become a chemical engineer. They make quite a bit money, so there's that.

Just invest 10% of everything you make in gold, if you stick to it, you're guaranteed to become a millionaire by the time you retire.
-
Trying isnt how you do it mango.

60k a year is dead end? What's wrong with not being materialistic?
-
Been there done that OP.
-
I'm majoring in engineering and plan to make at least 1 patent. So I have that going for me.
-
1. A dead end job makes way less than 60k 2. Becoming a millionaire is a pretty luck-of-the-draw deal 3. This thread reeks of troll and copypasta
-
I want to be a multi-millionaire.
-
My plan is to write my books and publish them. Hopefully they'll do well. I doubt I'll be the next J.K. Rowling, but if I can earn enough off of them to never work again, I won't complain.

Already am.
