I don't get this whole "Xbox vs PlayStation" war.
Now, I know this has been going on since forever and that this thread will probably start a Xbox VS PS argument (because you guys are so damn predictable), but I truly don't understand this huge uproar over which console is better.
I like to think I have a unbiased opinion on the matter; I owned both the first and second PlayStation. What made me switch to Xbox with the 360 was my boyfriend owned one and I liked some of the exclusive titles more. That's basically how I decide on which console I want to buy, and it's how I'll decide on which next gen console I will be purchasing as well. However some people will stick to a certain console just because of the manufacturer and the name, that to me is silly, especially when you feel the need to bash other consoles in the progress. Who the hell cares?
I was just after watching a youtube video where people were talking about the new Xbox not being able to play used games. I can understand how that would turn people from buying the console and make people upset, but some people were actually HAPPY because they want the new Xbox to fail, they want people NOT to buy it. Once again; WHO THE HELL CARES? Why do you want a product to do miserably? How does that benefit you? Why do you care what other people buy? I just don't get it! If you want to stick to PlayStation because that's what you're familiar or vice versa, fine, I get that but WHY do you care if more people buy an Xbox or a different console?

My guess is that when the PS3 came out, people who owned it felt the need to justify themselves buying that overpriced monstrosity and attacked the xbox. The xbox players retaliated, and eventually it got to this point where no one knows why they are still arguing. All they know is that they don't like each other.

2 RepliesI never really got it either. It's like you have to choose a side and wage a war of words against the opposing console. If you have a Xbox, you have to hate PS3 owners, and vice versa. The "console wars" so to speak seems trivial. You shouldn't hate someone just because they have a different console preference over you. They're just gaming systems after all.

People care because if one is better than the other it justifies their expensive purchase thats all it is. People want to validate their product that they purchased with a lot of money. Happens with other products too. As for me my friends play Xbox and so I got an Xbox. As for next gen? My friends are letting me do the research and will follow me with my choice and Im open to any of the systems at this point. Especially because of Destiny's cross platform use.

I have both systems. They both have their ups and their downs, but I do prefer my 360. However, there are some sweet games on PS3 that you can't get on Xbox. People get their feelings hurt when the company or product they have been so devoted to, both financially and through ridiculous arguments with other system's fanboys, seemingly betrays them. That is why some people want the new Xbox to fail. I will just buy the new one and keep my 360 if the new console really won't play used games.

Don't worry you not supposed to understand it. Just watch the single console plebians fight and bicker while you languish in your castle playing on multiple consoles and a gaming rig. They must never get the idea to own more than one system for they could rise up and revolt.

I've always liked Xbox and PlayStation as well as Nintendo. I've never disliked any of them. However, if the rumors of always online for the NextBox are true then I would want them to fail because they'd basically be alienating anybody who doesn't have a great internet connection, and as someone in a rural area this is a big deal.

It's rather amusing seeing all these observations on rumors collide given that nothing is official for the next generation of Xbox. There will always be discussion on "console wars" regardless of whether it [i]really[/i] matters. All that does matter is whether you decide to buy into it or not.

4 RepliesXbox 360 controller is hella more comfy than the Dualshock. Each console caters especially to certain publics, as in the 360 is more leaned towards FPS games hence the design of the controller. I don't really hate other consoles. I just don't like the their exclusives too much, or I don't consider them must-buys.

I don't understand it either. It's retarded, pointless, and does nothing to actually promote their chosen platform. BTW: Gamestop and Microsoft are working closely, so I don't think that the new Xbox will be used-game-banned. I think it'll play them just like the 360 does. Why else would Gamestop pimp out that they're "excited" about the new Xbox? Especially if it would kill their business.

2 RepliesI don't get it either. What does it matter to anybody if a product they don't own or even want fails? What justification or satisfaction do they get out of it? Kinda like in sports, I don't get why who "the best player ever" is matters. You like who you like. Same with consoles. While I own both PS3 and Xbox360, whatever nextgen console I get will probably depend on exclusives and what my friends get. I don't want to be "that guy" who can't play with everyone else.

1 ReplyI never owned an original Xbox and had both Playstation 1 and 2 as well, but the 360 is just a superior console when it comes to exclusives (with the PS3 not getting a decent set of exclusives for like 3-4 years) and greater online capabilities, which are the two things I look for most in a console. If PS4 looks better than the 720 I will get it, though I doubt it looking at the route PS3 took.

I own both the 360 and the PS3, and yes I enjoy the 360 more and really it's the only console I can play with currently on my Dell monitor since I have a VGA cable for it. My TV broke so.... I also started with the SNES and the original PlayStation, and I still have my original Xbox console. My PS1 broke so that's long gone. I don't remember what happened to the SNES exactly since my memory back then was a bit vague, I was only a small kid, but that's long gone too. And I have a nice gaming PC, so all these fanboys need to grow up. PC Master Race, Console Master Race? How about shut the fuck up and enjoy the systems you have Master Race and quit bragging that one console is awesome and the rest suck like a rabid fanboy? I'm serious. Fanboys of all kinds irritate the fuck out of me. And if a system does suck so much (like the Sega 32X as an example, I know that was more of an add-on for the Genesis but still, just an example) some people wouldn't bother returning it trying to get their money back and instead they claim that their purchase was justified and end up praising the damn thing as if it's their lord and savior. Now do I think that the PS3 sucks? No. It's a great console, but in my opinion it's very limited and has some flaws, and honestly I prefer the Xbox over it because the Xbox just has more to offer than the PS3. And as for the PS4, guess what, Sony is also considering on locking out used games, so it's not just Microsoft's idea. If either company goes for this approach, I'm sticking with PC for good. I like the consoles, but the companies are such assholes. Get my drift people?
