So it looks like I may be starting a quality control job here in a couple weeks if everything works out.
My original plans were to save up for a ZL1 over the course of a couple years, but I may be having second thoughts. So, I'm going to pitch this plan here and just see what you guys think.
I am thinking about saving for about a year and just outright buying a last gen GTO for a new DD/winter beater, keep my sentra for now, and save up another year or two to finance a slightly used 1LE while putting my GTO on permanent DD status.
I'm well aware of the GTO wheel hop/some strut issues, but that's an easy inexpensive fix. Since this would primarily be on DD duty, I wouldn't add too much power, and honestly the most I'd do to it would maybe just be headers/exhaust.
Then once I get my hands on a 1LE I turn that into my weekend cruiser/autox/track day toy. Thoughts?

Edited by Cobravert: 4/14/2014 7:05:35 PMI totally missed this thread. I don't know your state, but being a year round driver of an SVT Cobra convertible for the past 10 years I can say that it's a mixed bag as for driving a tail happy, power beast in snowy conditions. Make sure that you really want to be willing to make the sometimes white knuckle commutes. One MAJOR thing I would recommend would be install 'H' series, all weather radial tires rather than the 'Z' rated. Ones with really good wear, traction, and heat numbers. I have had the recommended sport tires (Z) on the Cobra, but burn through them in 9 months of just regular driving. In the snow, they're next to useless, though I managed. I have now been driving on a set of Yokohama ADVAN S4's for nearly 2 years, and still have a decent amount of tread on them that I think I may make 3 years on these. The biggest thing is, they're not speed rated for the Cobra's ability, but NEVER will I ever be in a position where that is a real problem. These things give me all the grip I ever had with the sport tires in doing drags as well, and I can't feel at any point where they gave up in hard driving. But they make the snow driving much less harrowing, especially this year. The GTO has a little higher Hp than I have too, but being a heavier car it may be less of a problem.

Get the car you want more. If you really want a Zl1 then save the money and get one. Just my two cents.
