Question about earbuds as a mic

So I've been browsing google for a short term mic remedy. I have so far learned that some earbuds that have an inline mic can be used without an adapter for the PS4. BUT some of the iPhone earbuds won't really be practical to use because they send a feedback like noise when used, but so far I haven't been able to determine which sets can be used without the feedback. My wife bought an iPhone 5c that came with earbuds I like, and she won't use. Was wondering if anyone has tried this with those specifically and could tell me. I don't have any other earbuds with an inline mic otherwise I wouldn't bother
