Thought we could have one, since more members of MBT are starting to play. You know how these things work.
For those that don't know or are interested, league of legends is a free online game where you fight in arenas on teams, trying to destroy the enemy base. Its that RTS-styled field of view, but your champion has skills. Its not an RPG, its not an RTS. Its fun. leagueoflegends.com

Suns, people were giving you advice. The fact of the matter is, 9 times out of ten, you would prob get wrecked in Ranked games playing as Garen. And if we plan on winning Ranked games, it makes it easier if our top lane doesn't lose every time. All we want is for you to learn 2-3 top lane champs that are decent top laners. Malphite is one of the better top lane champs, and is very easy to play (and that's coming from someone who mains as ranged champs). You need to just quit being so defensive and telling someone to fùck off when they try to help you. Theo and Vish, you guys could have been a lot nicer about giving Suns suggestions. Theo writing out a book on why Garen is bad is a little over the top. Also both of you swearing off ever playing with Suns again if he plays Garen was pretty rude. Do what I was planning to do, let Suns play his first game or two of Ranked as Garen, watch him get destroyed, and then hopefully let him make the decision to try a different champ on his own. tl;dr all of you need to grow up. <3

I'm not going to apologize for telling you that you're wrong in playing Garen. That's MY opinion, and I'm not going to apologize for thinking differently than you. And if you are so petty that you can't take criticism from other people you play with and still play with them, I honestly don't want to play with you. So, in your own words, suck the d. I wasn't picking on him... EDIT: Suns I'm sorry you feel that way. Although Vishra and I acted abrasively at times, we were only seeking the best interest for you and the team. [Edited on 07.06.2012 5:23 AM PDT]

Gavin I can tell people to suck the d when I need to myself. Regardless of playing Tryn, I'm not playing with you two anymore anyways. It just takes the fun out of the game for me.

Y'all need to stop picking on him. Just do you.

Props to Suns for trying out Tryndamere today. Its definitely a step in the right direction.

I think he watched that Dunkey video
Posted by: Quickstrike NC Let it be known that, I, Theo Combos, refuse to play ranked at all when Suns is playing Garen. Let the records also state, that, if he were to try to use a different, better champion, I'd be much more willing to play. Simple as that. *Signature*
Same, although to be honest, I don't even want to play normals anymore if it's going to be Garen toplane. It stresses me out, and I don't enjoy the games where he is a champion on our team.

That Jayce skin looks sweet, but I think I will just stick with the basic one

You seem to have misunderstood me. For one thing, I tried no one new last night. I played characters I knew and I did decently. I didn't play badly, nor did I do great. My comment was more directed towards Vishra, who WAS trying someone new last night and did play badly. However, I'm sure, because of those bad games, that it's only going to get better. No one is intentionally throwing games. Everyone has bad games.
Posted by: DanTheMan8987 For Gavin <3
I am in love Edit: Theo I know what you mean by that. But we shouldn't be throwing games so hard like we did last night. Even as an experienced player as yourself and others who are as experienced as you should know the basics of LoL despite the champion. Sure there is a setback, but last night was just really bad. I know you want to keep testing them out, but losing games like that when myself, Dan, and Suns are holding up is just really frustrating despite whether it counts or not. Good point Vishra. Gavin also reminded me of something last night. Trying champs for the first time in normal queue games is NOT a bad idea. Sure, you could use bot games to figure out the playstyle of a champion and how they play/their abilities. But you'll never truly learn how to master a champion unless you learn to play them in a real game situation. Just like Vishra, I've tried new champions numerous times in normal games. Sometimes I did well, and other times I failed. No matter how I did, though, I made sure to persist and learn the champion. Now I have 12-15 champions I'm comfortable playing with consistently.
Posted by: Quickstrike NC Don't try them once, decide you don't like them, and go back to Garen. That won't get you anywhere. Sure, you may do poorly the first few times, but thats all part of the learning experience. Don't feel bad if you have a bad game. I know you hold yourself to an extremely high standard but you gotta let that go sometimes.
Just wanted to highlight this. If you've paid any attention to me lately, I've had some REALLY crappy games. While some were due to me playing poorly, I'm also attempting to mix up my champs right now, so we have more options. I had that game with Karthus last night where I had the most deaths I've ever had in a game. But I think that that match taught me a lot about Karthus, and how to play him. I really don't want you to use a champ once, have a meh game, then write them off. Some champs aren't possible to learn properly without practice, but are a ton of fun once you learn them. I want to play more games with you Suns. You're a great top laner, but I REALLY want to see what you can do with a Tier 1 or 2 champion, instead of a tier 4 or 5 champion.

Why I Think Garen Is a Bad Choice for Ranked Gameplay
Please note: This is in no way a troll or a stab at Suns. Merely my opinion. You can take it or leave it.
Garen is completely useless as a Tank and offers nothing to the team. He scales slowly and is quite ineffective when built DPS unless he has a full 5-6 item kit. Here is why: Pro's -Naturally has alot of health -Naturally has alot of armor and magic resist because of his shields passive -Can absorb large amounts of damage upon shield activation -Can break CC with his spin Con's -Poor initiation (Slight speed boost with a Q) -No CC -Absolutely no damage mid-late game. -Kited very easily Conclusion Building Garen tank is useful only to absorb damage. And even then, the other teams have no reason to focus any sort of damage onto him at all. Judgement may hit the whole enemy team during teamfights, but the damage is extremely minimal. The only time Garen is slightly dangerous to the other team is when someone is low. Then he can proceed to ult them and steal the kill that the carries have worked so hard towards earning. This is why Garens K/D ratios are blown out of proportion. He can steal numerous kills with his ult and will die very little times due to how beefy he is. He may even still get alot of assists, but that is because he can be in the thick of fights, spinning around dealing some damage (really none at all), to everyone on the enemy team, receiving him many assists. Garen should not be using his ult unless he is 1 on 1 with another champion or securing a kill. They should not be used to kill steal from the carries, as they need these kills to thrive and help win the game. If the other team jumps our carries, Garen has no way to get the enemy champions off of them because he completely lacks CC. When initiating team fights (which he has difficulty doing), he has no way of slowing the enemy team or keeping them from running. He does a poor job of starting team fights, and, once they have started, he does a poor job of keeping his team safe. Ultimately, he does a great job of absorbing damage, but thats about it. He lacks all other qualities good tanks have, such as CC or initiations. Malphite, Amumu, Maokai, Nautilus, all are tanks who are overall much better and much more useful to the team. Personally, I think, that, if you're going to build Tank, Suns, that having a high K/D is nothing to be proud of. Going 9/0 or 11/2 is nothing to brag about, simply because it shows that you did not tank effectively for your team. Generally, I think that tanks should die atleast 4-5 times a game. That shows that you were willing to die and sacrifice yourself to save your carries and get your team kills. If I were to die as the tank, yet my team got 3 kills, I did my job correctly. Granted, that could also be a result of the character you're playing. You have no way to force the other team to target you because you lack CC. They can walk right by you without a second thought and jump upon one of the carries. So I suppose I understand why you die so little. I understand that you also like to have a good looking K/D. So maybe, tanking isn't for you. Tanks generally don't go Positive. If you want flashy numbers and alot of kills, you should try to play more of a DPS role. I can tank from the jungle no problem. Then again, you build him tanky because that way you're not as squishy and you can earn kills through your ult. If you were to build DPS, I'm sure you could get more kills if you played it right. Remember, this is just my opinion. Don't take it personally please. Don't be afraid to try new characters. I fear that you have become so acclimated to Garen, that everyone who is not Garen will feel foreign and unusual. I know there are characters out there that will suit you and you will like, but you just have to give them more than one chance. Don't try them once, decide you don't like them, and go back to Garen. That won't get you anywhere. Sure, you may do poorly the first few times, but thats all part of the learning experience. Don't feel bad if you have a bad game. I know you hold yourself to an extremely high standard but you gotta let that go sometimes. Also, don't be afraid of mana. Its a key component of the game, and if you're going to shut off all characters that use mana then you're really limiting your potential. Mana is really only a problem early game. With careful management of your abilities, it'll never be a problem. Well thats all I have to say. I know you probably don't care for my opinion at all, but I will still state it just in case you decide to take my advice. REMEMBER: this is only my opinion. Don't take it personally. Thanks for reading -Quick

The main reason you build GoldPerTenItems and Aura items is because then you have even more money for wards, and more money for bigger items later. Because you wont be getting last hits, you wont have enough money to afford the kind of build you would want. So buy a few GP10s like Heart Of Gold, Kages Pick, etc. Then you can start building for more hybrid items like a Chalice for mregen+mresist, or a Rod of Ages for more AP+HP, or an Abyssal or something for the aura. Depends a lot on the champ, but in general when playing with a full team on a more competative level, youll want to build more on the support end.
-
You dolt. No one here ever said AP Janna wasn't viable. We said that if you are playing a support role, you should be building as a support player, and not as an AP Carry. I can build support Karthus. If I'm the AP Carry though, I'm not fulfilling my role by taking things that won't help me do my job. Same with you. If you want to play AP Janna, then you can. But if youre our support for a game, play that, and maybe lategame (and I mean 30-40 minutes in, not 15-20) build into a hybrid. Pick up an AP item, diversify. But if youre a support, the only things I want to see stay in your inventory until 20-25 minutes are GP10s, wards, and maybe a Shurelyias.

Well I just played AP Janna as mid . . . 6/0/21

Either way Dan, we -blam!-. You could play as another support player, and we still dominate.
