A Giant and His Echo: Prologue, Part II

Previous Chapter —1 Hour Later— “Why are they still chasing us?!” The Exo shouted over the biting wind. “They probably figure if they kill you, then that’s one less guardian to deal with.” Echo calmly postulated. Giant vaulted over a rusted car and used it as cover from the Fallen Wire rifles. “These guys just don’t quit.” Giant Puffed. “Then we shouldn’t either.” Echo replied, “We going offensive or defensive?” “But I don’t have a weapon!” Giant pointed out. “You ARE a weapon!” Echo said, disappearing into his guardian. The Fallen were closing, their Captain right behind them, not wanted to directly attack a guardian, newly risen or not. He shouted commands in a foreign tongue to his comrades as they slowly advanced upon the lone Titan. Giant stood his ground. They crept closer. Giant stood his ground. They were almost within range...just a few seconds... Suddenly, Giant pulled out a circular shield, glowing purple with void energy, and threw it at the horde of Fallen. The pirates shrieked in terror as one by one they fell to the invincible shield. The Captain, clearly daunted by this threat, fled to call for reinforcements. His super drained, Giant headed to the now-frozen bay of the once great city they were in, but not before he grabbed one of the pirates’ wire rifles. “There’s no cover out here,” Echo shouted, the wind nearly drowning the sound of his voice “we have to make for that statue!” They heard deep throated roses from the rear. It seemed the Captain had received his reinforcements. Giant set up shop near the base of he statue, making a barricade appear out of thin air, the stolen rifle at the ready. A few minutes later, the large horde of fallen appeared on the frozen beaches of the city. Shot after shot was fired, but they would not relent. Soon they would be upon him. Soon he would be dead. “Wait a minute,” Echo realized, “I hear something.” Giant stopped firing so he too could hear it. It was the sound of a starship’s engines. “More reinforcements?” Giant said. “No,” Echo replied, “that’s the sound of an Arcadian-class Jumpship. It’s a guardian!” The ship strafed the Fallen, who were already scrambling for cover. In an instant, the ship flew over the place where Giant had barricaded, and a Guardian appeared in front of him. “Looks like you could use some help.” The Titan said, “Here, take this.” He handed him a Heavy Machine Gun. “To whom do I owe the pleasure?” Giant asked as they gunned down some dregs trying to escape. “My names Ringer-7. I’m from the city.” “I’m Giant. I guess I’m new around these parts” “Well, Giant, it’s nice to meet you. Hold on,” Ringer-7 Pulled out a shield just like Giant had done, but his shield created an impenetrable barrier. “Shoot through this,” he explained, “your bullets will dish out more damage.” Soon after this the Fallen completely retreated, their Captain turning to look at Giant, his eyes filled with rage. He uttered a few guttural cries, then vanished, his skiff flying away in the distance. “Thanks for the assist,” said Giant, “Could you take me to the city?” “Sure, he replied, “hold on to your socks though. I don’t plan on takin the scenic route.” They were whisked away in the jumpship, as the snow best down upon the remains of the old city. ——————————————————— Special thanks to Ringleader77, who let me use his character in this story. • definitly a good read! I really enjoyed how even though he was just Risen, he could use the Light, but he also wasn't chucking grenades and supering every 2 sec. the balance between being able to use the light all the time or using it very strictly (like in the game) can be very difficult to achieve. And you did just that! can't wait for more
Btw if you want to include me, I would love that! you can PM me
• The two flew together in silence for a time, Ringer navigating the jump ship and Giant chatting with Echo about his new HMG. "So Giant huh? I like that." " Thanks, and this is Echo. "Giant said as Echo bobbed up down in greeting. " Well, you two have got a long road ahead of ya, " Ringer-7 turned in his seat to look at the newly risen hero and his Echo. "And from the looks of it-you two can handle just about anything." He grinned, " With a little a practice in the crucible. " Giant looked up at the unfamiliar term, "The what?"
Wow man just wow! You have legit made my week. You can fly with me any time!
