[Fanfiction] [1] I Was Biocatarus-2

It had started with what was just a normal day at the Tower. The first Solstice of Heroes had recently come to an end, and already the average folk had gone back to their boring routines, all the while chattering about whatever minor grievances they had regarding the tiresome mundane. But you were never one to actively join in. It was because of this willful ignorance that precious focus was not spent on any jumbled words that polluted the air, leaving your attention free to notice what all others had not. In the Tower Hangar, past the chattering Hunter Vanguard and just a little beyond a Dead Orbit gathering, was a tiny spark of red. Naturally you got closer, for such a thing had not always been there, and so it deserved attention. You pick up the strange object for your Ghost to analyze. “It appears to be some sort of data drive, similar to those SIVA Clusters we found in the Cosmodrome. It seems harmless, but I’m not sure it’s worth our time.” You hesitate, but curiosity gets the better of you. It could be the start of a new Exotic Quest, after all. ********************************************************************* [Entry 1: Greetings from me to you.] You will never know me, never once meet the man that had accomplished plenty in his lifetime, yet also so very little. But who was I? No doubt you’ve already heard some stories, little bits of information here and there that aren’t quite complete enough to paint the whole picture. So I am leaving these, here just for you, to help cast away all the lies and half-truths undoubtedly present in the wake of my shadow. My name was Biocatarus-2, a hero to everyone but myself. I suppose the regret, for that is all that I am, started at the very beginning, with a vision of my Deep Stone Crypt. It’s a common dream, you’ve probably had it, but in the rare case you haven’t, know that it first appears as a golden field that reaches as far as the eye can see, and then some. I like to believe that this is all a metaphor for our desired future, a land of comfort and peace unscarred by any past transgressions. Yet the past is not something you can ignore, run from. No matter how my dream started, it always ended the same way. The warmth of the sun would become swiftly frigid, the fields consumed by rising shards of ice, and then dominating the center of paradise would be the form of an uncaring gray monolith. As I traveled towards The Crypt, every shaking step would come into conflict with that of another’s, the footprints belonging to a legion of faceless corpses that I suspected were representative of every person I had ever killed. Such is the burden of our forgotten lives. For me, the legion was aggressive and countless, but I was not one to give up easily. I fought like it was second nature, using my unflinching hands to reduce their numbers with violence, making progress across every occurance of the virulent dream. After a while the golden fields stopped appearing entirely, leaving me a permanently shorter path towards the cold ice and unforgiving dead. At last, across a hundred warring nightmares, I had made my path empty. I walked to the unguarded temple just to understand why I am what I am. To my horror the great iron doors were closed, and after that night I never had the dream again. This failure was true in my dreams, and true in my life as a Guardian. From very early on it became apparent that I existed as a rarity. I had been reborn a Titan, the steady fist and wall of the Last City, yet I also possessed traits common only for a Warlock. We Titans are often strong willed, but infamously simple minded. While I certainly fit that description, I found myself constantly questioning the nature of the world, and how there had to be a better future ahead of us. Beyond the reach of the Collapse, beyond the reach of war. My quest and my duty stood equally as the noble guides that would lead me down a path which ultimately decided who I was. I have toppled malignant gods, invaded labyrinths of the Vex, and survived the skirmish of Enedra. I have also been poisoned by an ancient machine, and have lead undeserving innocents to their deaths. All of this was at one point justified, for I had been determined to understand the hidden truths of motives unknown. If our future is that of only war, then at the very least we deserve to know why. So now I am telling you my story, in hopes that it will provide some guidance in a world already overfilled with competing words. Every journey begins with a first step, and I want you to possess comfort in knowing that your path will be just as important as mine. [The next Cluster is hidden within a cache located near the EDZ. Use your instincts, I know you will find it.] Next Fragment: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/251864255?sort=0&page=0 Book: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/251789024?sort=0&page=0
