I waken from my nightmare in a cold sweat to grab my pistol for comfort, thoughts racing through my mind as I contemplate the images I escaped from. I'm not sure if it was a dream or if I had truly been there at some point but when I rose up to the sight of my Ghost calling me a Guardian, I had no memory of what life I had before. He said this happens to everyone and I might or might not remember my past. My dream started with me leading a group through the mountains of North Carolina, we had rescued some villagers that had been attacked by the Fallen a few days before and we were trying to put as much distance between us as we can. I recognize the house colors they wore as the House of Phantoms; swift, silent, and just as spectral as their namesake, they had only a small team to kill the towns people. They didn't count on us to be there so they fled but I knew they'd be back eventually. We packed up what we could and started our trek to wherever we could that would be less hostile then things were going to get. We were southbound before I had a strange feeling we were being followed, I doubt the Phantoms would have followed us for this long before attacking but I stopped abruptly and raised my rifle. My squad did the same as we prepared to defend ourselves while me and someone else when to the side to scout. I can't remember anyone's name and I can barely remember their faces but I knew that I could trust my life to them. We head to the hilltop to get a better vantage for surveying the land and just in time for a Skiff to uncloak in a deafening boom which sent us back down, my weapon was thrown from my grasp as I land on my back. A Captain in a purple cape had come sliding down with four blades drawn, ready to end me. I had pulled by pistol from my waist to fire 5 rounds at the target only to be deflected by a shield but enough to make him jump to the side as more troops drop in. Our people scatter into small groups led by my soldiers into the thicker parts of the woods to avoid cannon fire while firing at the Vandals in pursuit, I am in close quarters knife and gun fight with a small team of Dregs. One made a straight lunge towards me as I shoot into another's skull, I roll away from the blade and avoid getting cut but the touch had burned my shoulder and made my arm numb. I turn with a low block to disarm him so I can come up with a right knee which shatter his ribs but I didn't notice the grenade in his hand when he stayed close. The detonation had blew out my left leg and I lay there, one of my guys is run to help me but gets gunned down by shrapnel from a launcher. I look past him to see part of the group running from the ships as the cannon fire down and sending bodies in all directions, I try to crawl towards them without any real plan as to what I could possibly hope to do. It hardly registered as the Captain had return and picked me up to face him so he could look me in the eye when he stabs me, it feels like a plasma torch is being run through me and when I look back at the Fallen he seems to be enjoying it. I don't know if those people ever got away from the slaughter or if they had all died with me, I don't recall other skeletons when I was raised so I remain hopeful. I just wish I could remember their names.

"If Only, if only", by they woodpeckers cry that the bark of the wood was as soft as the sky, while the wolf lies below hungry and lonely. He cries to the moon "if only, if only"

Edited by Matu Flp Krawfe: 8/3/2015 1:21:51 AMThanks, but I've worked out my own backstory. [this BTW is honestly what I had in mind when playing through Destiny] Who am I? The Black-and-decker 3,000 series with automated timer and laser-browning function! (exo-hunter) What am I? A reanimated toaster looking to seek vengeance against the alien force that killed my original owners! Why was I at the cosmodrome? My original owners were moving house! How did I die? In my original form I bravely dived under the break peddle during a high-speed get away! The moving van plunged off a cliff, killing us all but also taking the fallen soldier clinging to the roof down with us! It was an honorable way to go! BTW, OP that would have been a neat way of building more of a character to our master chief 2.0's. Here's hoping bungie tries for more depth in the sequel. :)
