Fluke Episode 1: Firefights

Fluke Episode 1 Firefight His mind drew a blank, unable to truly grasp anything. He could hear nothing, see nothing, feel nothing, yet he could feel something. The contradictory of the situation stunned his brain and he tried to reach for a sudden ray of sweet color. A beam of light warmed his cool mind and stimulated his body just enough for his primary functions to operate. His ears picked on a faint noise which became ever more louder and clearer as the light grew brighter. He was blinded, but his eyes readjusted rather quickly. "Wa..Up!" "Pl..s, Wak..Up!" The light faded away and a mixture of colors flooded his eyes, every little detail began to take shape and conformed to make a pleasant picture . A round shape with eyes likes his and an urgent frown caught his attention, especially the brown locks streamed down and covered a faded line of red. "Traveler to Alton!" young and firm, her lips moved as his senses finally jolted. He shook his head and barely opened his dry mouth. A familiar coppery taste was present in his throat. "Uggh. Man, that hurt." his first words were that of a comedic one. She raised a brow. "Alton, are you hurt?" she asked, her voice became much more annoyed. His mind narrowed down the voice and immediately recognized it as his fellow Hunter, Melody. Her emerald eyes stared deeply into his, while he noticed that her fair skin was stained by blood. He nodded and like the living dead, his body came to life as he slowly rose to his feet. With her assistance, the two stood still as Alton made sense of his surroundings. The scene around them was a mess with bits and pieces of everything lying in every which direction. They were concealed in a metallic chamber somewhere in a back room. Bent metal plating and railings were scattered in horrid shapes. The distinct smell of running oil and smoke assaulted his noise, while dangerously low hanging wires sent sparks to the ground. Alton shook his head, for the terrible reckage was none other than his prized starcraft. The emblem of the beautiful ship hung right in his sight. He felt a hand land on his shoulder and turned to face her. "Did we crash?" Alton curiously asked, believing himself to be in a strange dream. Melody nodded. "Shot right out of sky in a blink of an eye." "Hmmn." "Don't worry, you seem to be in one piece and so am I. Darain is ok as well." she added. Alton felt a smile coming on at the thought of his other friend, or should he say hulking beast. "Ok then. We'll have to wait until reinforcements sh-" Alton was cut off as he and Melody lost their balance. An explosion rang out, flashes of light collided with a part of the already damaged ship. They turned towards the gaping hole and noticed that it housed a towering man. He held his machine gun tightly in his hands while flickers kicked up dirt behind him. The buzz cut barbarian smirked as he pulled the pin on the weapon's ejection port. Alton nodded to him as well and he was given the same gesture. "Nice to see ya' on your feet Alton, but we got company." Darian confidently spoke. Another explosion erupted behind him, but he did not flinch. " Now if you excuse me, I got some welcoming to do." He left with gun in hand as Alton faced Melody. She already had her scooped rifle ready, she shot him a smile before running out into the fray. Standing there alone with nothing but the sounds of rippling bullets and a vivid display of glowing radiance, Alton dropped the current thought at hand and his mind geared towards his next objective. A polished hand cannon tapped the side of his waist, but a mere seven shooter would not suffice. His eyes spotted a silver automatic rifle lying in the rubble, the rubbery grip felt good in his leather laced hands. His legs began move without thought, his nerves got the better of him. He rushed outside as the sound of a firefight invited him in. __________ Only the sounds of shots being fired could be heard. The Vex were not letting up on their assault, their guns firing shot after shot with perfect precision. The guardians were fighting on uneven ground, the Vex had the height advantage over them. It also didn't benefit them that the Vex were harder to shoot thanks to the rocky terrain they found themsevles in. Clusters of grey pockets casted shadows that hinted at an approaching downpour, another problem but a less severe one. The only advantage Alton could make out was the Vex's uncontrollable habit of lining up in rows, making for easier kills. He quickly located his allies, each one on both sided of him with stable cover. Alton found his own spot behind a boulder and carefully listened to the sounds of gunplay. His opening came and after making sure that his rifle was still functioning, he surfaced from the boulder and unleashed two quick burst. One of the burst struck its target, they tore through the weak metal armor and blew off the leg of a Goblin. The robot fell over and plummeted down the cliffside, the clanking noises assured Alton that it was finished for good. He waited before going again, shooting and destroying a couple more lower ranking robots. But they would not last much longer, for his rifle clicked empty. He needed to meet up with his friends, but that would prove to be a bigger challenge than expected since all three of them had no helmet on. Lucky me. Alton thought. With options limited, his instincts kicked in. Alton leaped out of his cover and made a mad dash for Darian, dodging the volley of exchanged bullets and flying debris. He reached his fellow guardian, who was shooting over his cover. The rifle spat out the bullets in a rapid succession, taking out enemy after enemy. A small blast right in front of his cover caused him to quickly duck behind it and notice his friend crouched beside him. "I'm running low Alton, and I don't think throwing my rifle at them will do anything." Darian joked with a wide smile. Alton saw Darian's eyes stare past him. Alton turned to see Melody crouched next to him, a smaller machine gun was cradled in her hands. "What's the plan?" She asked. "I'm not sure, but I'll think of something." Alton responded, slowly peering over the large boulder. He was surprised to see that the Vex had other plans. A couple of the Minotaurs had jumped off the edge, their feet scaling down the side of the cliff. They metallic chants grew louder as they reached the bottom of the cliff. Alton ducked back down, his face displaying a strong amount of annoyance. "Stay down." Alton said, his tone deepened. He held his hand out and began focusing all his available energy into it. A purplish aurora appeared in his palm, eventually growing into a glowing ball that shallowed his whole hand. His pain subsided, allowing for him to use the Traveler's blessed gift to launch up in the air and hover there. Channeling all of his energy outwards, he propelled the mass of energy at the approaching targets. The ball collided with the ground right by the feet of one of the Minotaurs. The bomb erupted in hues of purples and blues, consuming most of the surrounding soldiers and tearing them apart with ease. Alton gracefully descended to the ground and pick up his rifle, his teammates sat in awe. "If we just keep doing that, then we will be unstoppable!" Darian excitedly exclaimed. "I wish I could but it takes a lot out of me. I couldn't stop all of-" Alton was cut of when their cover began ascending in front of them. A large Minotaur held the boulder high in the air, staring at the three guardians with great hatred. Alton felt himself be pushed out of the way while a blueish glow began to form right by him. Darian uppercutted the Minotaur, his fist laced with a thunderous energy. The fist plunged through the tough metal armor and out the other side, shocking the Minotaur and causing it to immedatly power down. He pulled out his hand as the large robot fell backwards, dropping the boulder along with it's lifeless body. "Now if we just keep doing that, then we will be unstoppable." Alton mocked, noting the irony of the situation. "Heads up boys, we're not finished yet." Melody said, returning the men's attention back on the rushing enemy. A large wave of Vex were scaling the cliff, ready to end the fight and avenge their stronger comrades. Alton reached for his hand cannon and took aim, while Melody loaded what little ammo she had left into her machine gun. "Everyone, split and engage. We're not dying here today." Alton order. "Roger." the two solemnly said in unison, but the three confidently smiled to each other. Alton knew what was about to happen, for it happened every single time they were at the brink of defeat. The three were about to make a game out of the situation like they always did, in which loser had to buy dinner. Alton felt the inspiration to fight not only for survival, but to not have to pay up. They broke apart of their stance and spread out. Within her natural element of close quarter combat, Melody blew through the Goblins with little trouble. Darian was up too, his hands glowing with more electric energy. Alton rushed the remaining group of Vex with his seven shooter in hand, aiming for the center of their crimson red eyes. The guardians danced around in perfect sync, executing their enemies with swift strikes and accuracy. Time seemed to dwindle away into nothing as they kept fighting, they would not allow themselves to stop for anything. Worried not by the looming stare of the reaper himself, the true battle had commenced. Continues Below

__________ It was finished by the destructive blow of Alton's Nova Bomb. The battlefield was littered with mechanical bodies, nothing was spared. Alton was ready to collapse right there, he had put all of his energy into that last bomb. He let his legs give in and he fell onto the hard ground, staring up at evening sky. The pains from earlier return to torment his body, but he could care less. His team had survived a large crash and single handedly held off a large force of Vex. He couldn't have been more proud of his friends, who fought valiantly against waves of enemies. He closed his eyes, allowing for his body to hurl painful insults at him. He could hear footsteps coming towards him, they picked up as they got closer to him. "Alton?!" Melody called, her concerned voice made Alton chuckle to himself. Melody got down beside him, a tear rolled down her dirty cheek. Darian walked up next to her and looked down at his friend. She looked up to Darian, who just smiled back at her. "Alright Alton, I'll give ya till 3 before my fist comes down on your chest." Darian started counting. Alton couldn't hold in his laughter. As he open his eyes he came face to face with a teary eyed Melody and a smirking Darian. His laugh was one of a dead man's laugh, the kind last made when all goes dark. But he was still there, the warning storm sent the wind through his hair and caused him to shiver slightly. He and his friends were alive. "Don't joke like that!" Melody said, a frown appeared but was replaced with a warm smile. They shared a good laugh together. The sun began setting as the oranges and pinks tried their very best to shine through the darkening clouds. The three looked towards the east as the sounds of engines grew louder. A ship hovered over the three, slowly landing in the open area next to them. Alton chuckled." Looks like those reinforcements are here." End of Episode Fresh start, they always feel good. After putting The Longest Stride on standby, this nifty story has taken root in its place. It may be rusty since I haven't written anything in awhile, but it works so I'm happy. This story will work in a episodic like fashion where one "scenario" is focused on, meaning that there is no chronological order to them. I have planned over 20+ scenarios, each different in their own ways. I hope you've enjoyed it. Any feedback is welcomed, whether it be constructive or not. Thanks for reading.
