Nightfall, week of 10/21 - 10/27

Wow this week's nightfall is a bitch the first time through! Once you figure out the strategy it's a bit easier tho. Here's a short guide to beating it this week. First off, arm yourself with arc-based weapons. A blue/rare arc weapon will deal significantly more damage than even an upgraded yellow/exotic weapon! During last week's nightfall I got lucky enough to obtain Thunderlord, an exotic arc-based machine gun, and it simply shredded the mobs this week. Also, there are some wizards that spawn with red/solar shields, so keeping a solar based sniper rifle on-hand is helpful as one or two shots will break their shield (I recommend Ice Breaker). Once you enter the hive fortress, follow the long hallway into the first area, but HANG BACK. This first area has a wizard and many thralls that will tear you apart. Keep one member of your fireteam back far enough that they don't get hit or splashed, so if the other two members die they can be revived. The other two members hang at the entryway and slowly pick of the enemies in the room. Once the room is clear head into the next area. The next big challenge is opening the gate. This is the hardest part of the nightfall. Have your highest level run into the room and let your dinklebot (ghost) loose at the gate. Then everyone book it back into the long entry hallway. One person should stay all the way back up at the top of the stairs in the previous room. From there you can snipe wizards that will follow the other members into the hallway. The other two members hide behind the wall in the entry way and slowly pick off the mobs as they head your way. Once every mob that you can see is killed, send ONE member out to peek around the corner, attract the mobs, and run back into the hallway with them trailing so the other people can help kill them. Occasionally they will run all the way into the hallway and sit at the base of the stairs- that's when the sniper can pick them off from the safe spot at the top. Keep doing this until all the mobs are dead. This may take a little while. Always keep one team member way far back so they can revive people who die! A team wipe sends everyone to orbit, there are no checkpoints, so keeping at least one person alive is incredibly important! Also, at one point 4 wizards will spawn at once and they are NASTY. Keep two people in the safe spot at the top of the stairs and let one other member be the bait. The member who elects to be the bait should run out and attract the wizards, then run back into the hallway. That person will probably die, but that's OK! The two people at the top of the stairs should lay into the wizards with everything they have. After a few minutes the wizards will leave and head back into the main area. One person can revive the person who died, and this can be repeated until all the wizards and mobs are dead. From this point head through the gates into the next area. The next area is a large room with some thralls and an ogre. Just stay back and snipe everything from afar. Once cleared, the next hallway has 2 ultra knights. Don't underestimate these guys! Leave one person way back to act as a reviver if everyone dies, while the other two members go in for the kill. Once down, head to Phogoth. Once the doors to the summoning pits open, do NOT go through! All 3 members back up directly past the first archway. You should still have a good view of the doorway into the pits. The entry room is called the shriek room, because if any player is in that room for more than a few seconds then a shrieker will appear just inside the archway and start firing at you. So staying behind the first archway is key! By leaving the shriek room and hiding directly behind the archway where the shrieker spawns, after a few moments any mobs that came after you into the shriek room will despawn- the shrieker will despawn as well. So the strategy is this: One person at a time enter the shriek room and fire at Phogoth from the doorway. The other members stay behind the archway and keep an eye out for the shrieker, and call it out when it appears so the first person can run back past the archway and hide until it despawns. Once despawned, repeat sending one person to the doorway to fire at Phogoth. If you have good arc weapons, he shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes to kill with this strategy. If anyone has any more tips or strategies feel free to add it to the comments! I did this twice yesterday, once with my 29 Titan and once with my 28 warlock, and this is how we did it, but I'm always open to new and better strategies! Tack
