Beta End Public Event?

I was out near where the entrance to the relay area is (the section with all the lvl 8 Fallen and Hive) with a few guardians at the end of the beta. We were talking about what might happen at the end of the beta. I was talking about how i was looking forward to taking down some Cabal in September! My buddy suggested "What if at the end of the beta a bunch of Cabal drop ships come in and they kill off the rest of the players. We laughed for a bit and continued on just killing Fallen and Hive. Eventually 9:30 EST came around and we werent kicked. I thought, huh thats odd. But then my friend reported that he could not join the game. At that moment the skies darkened and i said in horror...oh no....its happening.... ITS THE CABAL! Of course it wasnt, but a public event did start. We finished the event with all Gold. Shortly after the game kicked us off. Did anyone else experience a public event right around the end of the beta? I just found it odd that right at 9:30 a public event started
