Part 6 - Unanswered Questions

Sliding and getting off the table is going to be the hard part, Zo'ruuk thought. He felt stiff, not used to the mechanizations of this large body. Still sitting there, the Exo looking at him curiously. Zo'ruuk took a breath, he felt something in his chest expand. He tried to blink, what was blinking he thought. His eyes did nothing, his hands and his body responded to his every will. He slowly turned to hop off the table, as he turned he saw the mirror. A mechanic body, larger than some of the Exo in the room. Who were they? Before looking at the mirror once more he looked around the room, 3 Exo, and a whole lot of foreign equipment, brightly lit up by the light in the middle of the room, fluorescent. Returning to the mirror he stared into his face. Matte metal, almost like he was wearing a mask. Blue orbs, a striking blue looked back at him, his eyes. He lifted his hand and watched the mirror reflect his movements as he touched his almost featureless face. His chest was broad, supported by strong shoulders, large arms and strong legs, he was now an example of the prime of this race. "Do you remember anything?" the older Exo in the room rasped at him. The words sounded very foreign to his ears, garbled at first. He tried to think about yesterday, nothing, darkness. "No, I do not, but I have many questions." Zo'ruuk said standing. His voice sounded foreign as well, rasping from deep inside his throat. Turning to the men on the other side of the table he waited for a response. "We have many answers to your questions, my child. Patience, they will come. Please, come with us." The old Exo extended his arm towards a nearby door, and one of the other two opened it, holding it open for him. Cautiously he complied and walked out into a great marble hallway with grand windows, letting in light and showing buildings and streets, birds and people walking to wherever they need, he could see distant mountains over a great wall and sky resting above them. What caught his attention was the great white sphere floating above the buildings, shadowing the great City. "That is the the Traveler, protector of the people of this City." The old man stated, walking up to Zo'ruuk from out of the room. "This is the last City. The last safe city on the planet Earth. You are an Exo, one of three great peaceful races. We share the City with the Awoken, an ethereal race, and Humanity, the original inhabitants of this planet." He rasped. Zo'ruuk took this all in with little resistance. "And you are?" Zo'ruuk asked, turning to look down at the old Exo. "I am the Leader of our people my boy....but enough with the questions, come, you have much to learn, as it seems you have no memory." He said, taking off down the hallway, Zo'ruuk did not argue. Following, Zo'ruuk began his first task, learning who he was. The Exo gave him his own room, he needed next to nothing for sustenance, but whatever they gave him, he consumed. They would not tell him who he was, as was Exo law, each Being must carry there own past on their shoulders, not to be interfered for any reason by outside forces. The old Exo became a father figure to Zo'ruuk, teaching him the way and history of their people. Zo'ruuks mind grew, but late at night, in his quarters, he often wondered why he couldn't remember anything. "Father, why can I not recall my childhood, and growing?" Zo'ruuk asked the one day. They stood out on the roof of the great building, tents and water fountains, gardens and benches were beautifully placed, made of marble or gorgeous stone. Looking out over the streets below, Zo'ruuk watched the breeze fluttered the flags in the wind, but he could not feel any such movement of air. "That, I cannot tell you my child, that is a journey you must partake in yourself." He said, chuckling, "You are curious, this is good. You see the garden behind you? It is a place to meditate. Meditate there everyday until something returns to you. Or, you could always venture out and seek these answers for yourself." The old Exo smiled, placing a hand on Zo'ruuks shoulder. "You will find what you are looking for, that much is for sure." He said, removing his hand, he walked towards the door across the way, leaving Zo'ruuk to his thoughts. A wind blew from the direction of the Traveler, ominous and hovering, ever solemn in its guarding of the people. The wind rustled his black pants, that he felt, but he did not feel the cool air caress his bare chest. Zo'ruuk stood and looked up at the Great Traveler. Why are you here? he silently asked the great orb. Why am I here? Who am I? Those two questions haunted Zo'ruuk every day. Sighing, he turned to the garden, and started his journey to learn who he was. To Be Continued.... -Hope you guys enjoyed this installment. Thank you for the read, and more is on the way!-
