What Kind of Trainer Are You?
There are tons of ways to play Pokemon, especially after the game is over. Are you an ace trainer who wants the best team? A breeder? An explorer? Are you trying to fill the PokeDex? A mix? Do you just play for fun?

I'm the guy who has his starter pokemon at level 99; but his other pokemon are in the high teens.

My first team I used to play through the game, I altered it a bit after the E4 and now I'm thinking about assigning EVs properly My second team that I'm working on I'm assigning EVs to off the break; essentially "perfect" for what I want, since I now understand the new mechanics of the game, I'll also be using this team to go through the Looker's Bureau as a way to bring a new feel for the game about After that, I might make one more team but it'll take a while

Like, I think Infernape has higher stats than Blaziken but I will ALWAYS use Blaziken because it's my favorite. Of course I fill my Pokedex inbetween. Though I can't do much till Bank is out...

I catch a full team of pokemon I like early and keep most of it throughout the game.

I like to build teams of pokemon I like, even if that brings a fatal flaw along with it. An example of that? Most of my teams have a common weakness to fire throughout the teams. Also, I like grass tyypes the most and the only fire type I've ever trained is Magmortar.
