Destiny - General Acronyms

DestinyTheGame acronyms/word replacements: SGA = Super Good Advice - named after the exotic machine gun (available as a drop or from the "A Voice in the Wilderness" exotic bounty); used in favor of "PSA" (public service announcement) or "ProTip" on this board as a shorthand introduction for useful tips and tricks. TLW = The Last Word - named after the exotic of the same name; used in favor of "TL;DR" (too long; didn't read) to signal a summary of the text preceding or following it. RNGesus = loot drops and engram deciphering are dictated by a 'random number generator' (RNG) in the game's code, so if you want good loot, you should "pray to RNGesus"; used in favor of "Pray to the RNG Gods" as used in other boards with RNG elements. IDEHTTEWIDHTTE = "I don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain." The groan-worthy line from the Stranger when you first converse with her (it?) in person in the Academy on Venus in the mission, "A Stranger's Call." Xursday = the best day of the week, when our tentacle-faced buddy from the far reaches of space comes to share his loot with us (also known as Friday and Saturday, or as Xursmas). Randall the Vandal = the Commander-level Vandal with diamond skin at the Forgotten Shores in the Cosmodrome; has since been patched to a normal vandal by Bungie; some report that rumors of Randalls demise have been greatly exaggerated but it is unclear whether this is due to a temporary glitch removing him from the game which has since been fixed or from RNGesus bringing him back from time-to-time. Greg = a dreg. Hank = a shank (also known as shark, or a skank). Harvey = a harpy (also known as herpes). Praet = (pronounced 'prate') a praetorian. Supp = a supplicant (also known as a Suppi). Dinklebot = your Ghost (a robot voiced by Peter Dinklage). Sunbro = a sunsinger warlock. Voidbro = a voidwalker warlock. Titanbro = a titan (who likes to punch a lot) (also known as Smashbro). Fistbro = a striker (who likes to punch a lot) (may sometimes refer specifically to a striker titan). Bubblebro = a defender titan (who likes to punch a lot) (also known as Bubble Buddy). Gunbro = a gunslinger hunter (also known as 'goldbro'). Invisibro = a bladedancer hunter (also known as 'bladebro' or 'knifebro' or 'stealthbro' or 'blendbro' or 'shivbro'). X Master Race = conclusory statement to punctuate or follow an assertion that X class is the best (i.e "Titan Master Race, or Warlock Master Race, or Hunter Master Race.). cheese = a strategy or method of completing a task that either takes advantage of a glitch or exploitable, or otherwise diminishes the difficulty of the task (i.e. going under the platform in the archon priest area, or using grenade DOT to push Atheon off the map). surfing = pressing the 'dance' directional whilst standing next to a sparrow and holding down the button to get on the sparrow will result in your guardian dancing instead of sitting in the sparrow seat if you get the timing right (note - you will have to drive through a loading area to a new zone before other guardians will be able to see your character dancing instead of sitting). DOT = damage over time. DPS = damage per second. AOE = area of effect; refers to skills that effect a physical area rather than applying directly to an enemy; can refer to either the effect itself, or the area the effect will apply to. ADS = aim down sight; the act of bringing up the scope to fire with increased accuracy; opposite of 'hip firing'. proc = etymology hotly debated by Everquest, WOW and oldschool gamers; it may be derived from "process" from games like Everquest and World of Warcraft, indicating the 'process' that would be implemented when certain conditions were met, and may also be derived from earlier games from "programmed random occurrence" (shortened to PROC) in reference to how an effect/event is represented in a game's code; it is now generally used to reference the likelihood of an event happening and/or the event itself, and pertains generally to things that have a percentage chance of activating (i.e. the Titan skill Iron Harvest has a chance to generate orbs from heavy weapon kills, so you could say "Iron Harvest doesn't proc enough" if you are unsatisfied with the frequency of that skill activating) (see also, RNGesus). NPC = non-player character, generally split into those you can interact with (vendors), and those you cannot (people walking around the tower and/or enemies). mobs = non-boss enemies; derived from the term "mobile" from certain old school games to differentiate between mobile and non-mobile enemies; also derived as an acronym of "monsters or beasts" from early MMOs. adds = specifically additional enemies that spawn during a boss fight, but can also be a general reference for mobs. trash = another term for low-level enemies, frequently combined with 'mobs' (i.e. "I'll clear these trash mobs, you guys can focus on the Walker"); can also mean enemies that are skippable and do not need to be killed to progress. inc = incoming (i.e. "Heads up, Praetorian inc"). aggro = the term for drawing an enemies attention, generally used in the context of drawing their attention away from more vulnerable or damaged teammates. burn = an indication to your fireteam to focus fire on the boss (also called burn phase). mythoclasted = term to denounce someone else's statement, indicating that the myth they state has been busted (see also, Destiny Myth Busters). OP = overpowered; a reference to a weapon/skill/enemy being so powerful that they upset the intended balance of the game (not to be confused with "OP" as a reference to the 'original post' or 'original poster' in thread/forum discussions). nerf = a patch or game update that weakens an existing weapon, skill, or enemy (i.e. Shotguns were nerfed to reduce their base damage at maximum range by 20% in the October 14 hotfix). buff = a patch or game update that strengthens an existing weapon, skill or enemy (i.e. Scout Rifles were buffed with a 6% damage increase across the board in the October 14 hotfix). toon = another term for your character generically, from "cartoon" (also known as a "sprite" in some contexts). main = a term for your primary character, the one with the highest light level and first preference of gear. alt = a term for your alternate character(s). mule = an alt whose primary purpose is to store gear because your vault is full. getting sharded on = when you receive only Ascendant Shards in an entire Vault of Glass run. Treasure Cave = a cave in Skywatch of the Cosmodrome wherein trash hive would respawn every 6 seconds as long as you remained roughly 100 yards or more from the entrance of the cave; the Treasure Cave has been patched by Bungie because the loot system of the game (each and every enemy has an equal chance to drop engrams) was giving people incentive to farm the cave for engrams rather than engage in strikes; Bungie has erected a memorial of sorts in the Treasure Cave to commemorate the millions of hive who were slaughtered over the course of a month - a pile of bones/remains that you can 'disturb'. MOL = Mote of Light. SC = Strange Coin.
