I got into the Alpha and was immediately put into a mission, only after the customization stage.
Here were my thoughts of my experience.
The customization was lackluster, I expected it, however, because it was the Alpha and I assume Bungie is saving the important things for launch.
The gameplay is excellent. The shooting is surprisingly accurate for an Alpha. Although during Competitive Multiplayer, I have shot right at the enemy, and they take no damage. I assume they let us play Alpha for reasons like those.
Also, the gameplay is smooth.
When I am in a fireteam, I sometimes get disconnected from the server and lose my mission progress. I also assume they will fix that in Beta and in the final game.
The atmosphere is astounding. Old Russia is fun to explore, even though we only get a small fragment, it is still fun to go into a certain part of the map and encounter Fallen enemies.
The First Light Multiplayer map is also astounding. You can see Earth from the map, and the moon itself provides lower gravity and higher jumps, which I find fun.
Although the Alpha is a lot of fun, it lacks in many things. Lack of content, weapons, and gear.
That is to be expected and should not be a downside.
I am having a lot of fun with the Alpha, and will be sad when the servers close and have to wait until July 17th for the Beta, which I am also looking forward to.
I hope this helped sculpt a view of Destiny First Look Alpha.

I'm having a lot of fun at my Grandmothers house cleaning out the old shed. For the record it took nine hours to get there so we go to sleep then wake up the next day and like WORK WORK WORK water MORE WORK

I concur. It was an awesome 1st day playing the alpha. Hoping to explore the area a lot more.
