Destiny One-Shot: Orbit

My boot crunched as it made contact with the molten ground. By the time I straightened up from my crouched position, the nausea had left me. Years of using a transmat had benefits like that. My ship hummed above me before accelerating upwards to the North East, sending already loose soil and stone to my back. Pelting the cooling object in front of me. After confirming that I was alone, I lowered my rifle and let it hang loose on it strap that rested on my shoulder. The scanners had already indicated that there were no hostiles within a few miles. But I always preferred to rely on my own senses. Wordlessly, I moved towards the fallen star. My Ghost materialized to my left and wordlessly started moving towards a smoking part of the wrecked satellite. I orbited around it while my Ghost began scanning it. The satellite itself was very sleek, and glowing red. The surface was smooth albeit small punctures and areas where it had made landfall. I squinted, activating the zoom on my Manifold helmet. The surface was made up of small hexagons that most likely served as Microsol panels. A screen popped up in the mid left of my visor, momentarily searching through databases before confirming that it was indeed a Type-25 Microsol plating. Two fins on the back of the aerodynamic satellite were accompanied by a third twisted and broken fin. A fourth one had been completely torn off. A light few pings sizzled on the cooling surface of the satellite. They began falling more rapidly. I stood up and moved back around towards my Ghost. “I’m almost done. The security on this was pretty tight. Everything I have gotten out of it so far has been promising. I’ll fully decode the rest of the files later in the archives,” It told me with its canned voice accompanied by clicks and whirrs. I looked off towards the West, my helmet picking up every drop of rain falling on the miles of grasslands around me. The sky broke through the darkness of the clouds, and just for a moment, the sun illuminated every single drop. Every single prism, each unique and different. As soon as it came, it was gone again. “I’m done. Should be clear for Termbites. I’ll notify the Tower to send in some carriers.” I turned back toward the satellite and pulled a sphere from my Manifold armor. I tapped a combination of buttons on the side before leaving it to hover off the ground. The grey sphere slightly split into two on the horizon line, revealing a dark shade of purple. From the sphere, millions of tiny microbots began to swarm certain pinpoints on the satellite. For a few moments, nothing seemed to change as the last of the Termbites entered the satellite, until a tiny separation point began to form near the front. The same process in the back began, dividing the Chinese markings on the side. Moments later, the front end of the satellite fell to the ground followed by the newly formed sections that had once been the middle and the back. The tiny swarm of Termbites returned to the orb, prompting me to pick it up after it had closed. I tucked it back into my dark robes. A small timer appeared on my visor. ETA: 1:15:00 My Ghost looked at me before dematerializing, leaving me to my thoughts. I unslung my rifle, the Fallen House of Obsidian would scavenging for this piece of Golden Age Tech and they would find me in between them. “Just another day at work.” I smiled at my own pitiful joke and stood guard over the divided satellite. I looked up to the sky once again. The rain clouds were clashing, churning, and mixing. Most importantly, moving. Promising to return the sun to the Earth. - Something I wrote up in my free time. My apologies if there is some incorrect grammar in there. Yup.
