I have some questions for you guys at the bottom of the post that relate to my assumptions and calculations, I want input from other passionate lore fans:
Data, assumptions, volume calculations:
Measuring conservatively by using a ruler on my monitor to compare the traveler and a skyscraper, I got results that said the Traveler is approximately 22 times taller than the tallest tower in the center of The City.
Assuming the towers are similar to current human skyscrapers, I am giving them a height of 1,000 meters.
The traveler is roughly 22,000 meters tall.
I assume the outermost two layers (the gray and the white plating) to be in total 1km thick.
Using a radius of 11,000 meters, I calculated the volume of the entire Traveler
V = 5.58×10^12 Cubic Meters
Subtracting the volume of a sphere with a radius of 10km from the volume of the Traveler in order to find the volume of the mantle
5.58×10^12m^3 - 4.19×10^12m^3
= 1.39^12m^3
That’s 1,390,000,000,000m^3
One trillion 390 billion cubic meters.
The materials listed by the Grimoire:
“Ghost Fragment: The Traveler
Dreams of Alpha Lupi
You have lived as invisibly as possible, flicking from solar system to solar system, making grand plans, overseeing the culturing of civilizations, before leaving in a blink. But you have no recollection of ever wanting worship or even thanks from those blessed by you.
But memory is heavy now.
It feels like lead and neutronium and electroweak matter fashioned into a moon-sized ball that you must carry as you move.
Now, your flight is rapid, your vast mind infected with such dread and toxic doubt that you find yourself afraid of the simple act of thought.
And it is your children you must turn to now, in time of need.”
Final calculations:
Three materials are listed, Lead, Neutronium, and Electroweak Material. I’m paying close attention to the mention of Neutronium, as it would be the best choice for outer armor plating on the Traveler.
Neutronium is a superdense material thought to be at the center of neutron stars.
It has a density of 8×1017 kg/m^3
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutron_star
Multiplying the weight per meter cubed of Neutronium by the volume of the Traveler’s mantle:
8×10^17kg/m^3 * 1.39^12m^3
= 1.112x10^30 kg
The Earth itself only weighs 6x10^24kg.
To sum up, if the traveler’s outermost 1 kilometer of shell is made from neutronium, then it is roughly 185,333 times more massive* than the Earth.
*Thanks to Jarod for helping me realize I was being a bit to casual in my terminology, lol.
Important questions that I have for you guys:
Are my calculations sound?
Just looking at the scars on the Traveler and knowing there is and clockwork-style internal structure is how I got my guess of a 1km thickness for the outer plating. Do you guys have any better guesses or ways of figuring out the thickness? Please do not refer me to the early concept art of the Traveler as the design has changed a great deal since then.
“Electroweak Material” confuses me, I know some chemistry, not much in the way of physics lol. Anyone here know what it might be? I was thinking some sort of magical graphene or silicon.
EDIT: Had some good comments left by fellow forums goers, apparently I don't need to worry about accounting for this stuff.
If someone who has a big flatscreen TV could get me a measurement of the tallest tower and a measurement of the traveler in centimeters, I would be happy to go back over and refine the calculations, TBH I got them using a ruler on my small-ish PC monitor that I have plugged into my One.
And guys, no one unplug the antigravity…
Special thanks to Charlemagne and Qwerty for fact checking me while I was making rough drafts of this.

Riddle me this: How are we not all pulled onto the traveller? Since it's mass is greater than that of the earth, it's gravitational pull would eclipse that of the earth.

Edited by Xaldergeddon: 4/6/2015 8:52:57 PMWith this theory should we not be orbiting the traveller? Tell me this...
-
Edited by TeWrecks: 4/7/2015 2:27:08 AMAwesome work
-
But that's just a theroy. A GAME theroy. Thanks for watching
-
FIRST OFF MASS AND WEIGHT ARE DIFF BRO
-
What about the fact that that isn't the WHOLE traveler
-
I think this is brilliant, I had an idea to use a system like this to get the exact sizes of weapons and pieces of armor. Although I believe you have surpassed my math skill.
-
Meat th would fall into disarray. The fact that the planet in fiction can support its weight is beyond me
-
One day I'll be like you... One day
-
Cool stuff!
-
Too much math, just gonna assume you're right

Edited by Meras: 4/7/2015 1:14:03 AMHe's a fatty alright. Oh, I mean *it's
-
They didn't even mention what Any of our guardian name is in destiny lol
-
All has been made clear to me now... The Traveler doesn't float...
the earth does..
-
Nice work! You planning on being an engineer
-
error

The traveler cannot weight that, earth weights more than 20,000,000,000 tons, with the traveler's volume and radius in order for it to weight 22 more times than earth you would have to fill it with the most heavy material ever discovered by a human 22000 times which is ridiculous, therefore, i call bullshit.
-
I'm confused how you could measure the radius of the traveller when you don't actually know how far away it is from Earth? That's like saying oh cos I can cover a full moon with my thumb at arms length, the moon must be the size of my thumb.. Also, as a Physicist I can clarify that when it says 'Electroweak' it means the unification of both electromagnetism and the weak interaction (the interaction of particles decaying through a mechanism) into a single 'state'. I also know that this unification doesn't exist in our time, but during the time around the Big Bang and has been created in particle colliders at high temperatures/energy. So what it means by electroweak material is anyone's guess.. More than likely Bungie just pulling a complicated word out of their rear ends to make something sound clever..

You callin me fat!
-
We can calculate his theoretical weight, yet we still don't know why it's here.
-
Now make a bmi
-
My question is what did the travler do to fight the darkness
-
Can you do my homework for me? I'm sure my professor would appreciate it lol

This is awesome

Awesome.

First post in thia forums that is not full of poop. As for electroweak, I think it refers to electro magnetic fields and weak interactions, the weak force is the responsible for nuclear fission and I think radioactivity on some particles. Electroweak could be some sort of energy altho it is said that in order to achieve an interaction between electro magnetic fields and weak force it must super hot 10^15K. I haven't read the grimoire. This info comes from external sources.
