Devilsblood: Part I, The Test

Pt I: The Test “Are you sure you want to do this..?” “No. Do it anyways.” He felt an excruciating pain and then nothing. His eyes saw nothing, his heart pumped no longer. But he was not dead. He felt this happen, without pain. He was slipping to sleep but he knew doing so could cause unneeded implications with the test. Visions of things he couldn’t understand slipped through his head. Through his soul, not just his mind. His mind was not thinking, but yet he could think. Was this what being an ethereal being is like? You have all the functions of a body but you don’t? He would think of that later, for he felt his Ghost go to work. His Blood began pumping once more, his lungs filled with air, his brain started racing, and then he felt his fingers touching grass. He sat up, cloak shifting a bit from under him. He looked at his ghost and, using the neural transponder that was in his head, sent the Ghost a vision of what he saw during his death and revival. This is what the Thanatonaughts did; search beyond the veil of death. Even though he was no Warlock, he liked the studies they had and made. He smiled, and then slowly got up. He looked around and looked at how beautiful the plains of grass where. He sat under one large tree that stood in the middle of a largely barren field. The luscious blue sky and the shimmering emerald blades of vegetation made the scene perfect. Before the Collapse, the earth was rumored to be a little tamer with how they treated plants, restricting but letting them grow to the ‘ideal’ size. Afterwards, however, the plants grew in every and any way they wanted, and the lush nature was not restricted, leaving the plants to grow on and over everything. The scene was perfect, as the Hunter saw it. He smiled, and then rose to his feet. He stumbled a bit getting up, but he was able to get up without much pain. His Ghost did a pretty good job, he thought, as he slipped his helm on and grabbed his rifle, one of the very few ‘Icebreaker’ prototype sniper rifles to be produced. He was glad he had been able to, with his Ghost, repair and optimize the gun, for they were worth the hassle of both finding and repairing or whatever else the gun needed. His glimmering cloak shone, the golden pattern on the back. He teleported himself and his gear, plus his Ghost, to his ship which had been hovering in low orbit. He then set a course with the Director on his ship to fly back to the Tower. His ship, with a shake, boosted off towards the planet’s surface, zooming toward the Last City, and the Tower that resided inside of its walls. He closed eyes and, with a sigh, looked at his radar. He then stopped, and his jaw nearly dropped. “We’re… Surrounded?” An alarm went through the ship, and a hard bump nearly knocked the Hunter off his backside and into the floor of the cockpit. The ship slowed to a near hover, and then he heard even more clattering above him. Fallen. He had been hunted. He saw one blade pierce the ship’s sturdy hull, then another. He felt a jittering of the ship, and then the whine it made when it landed. Then he heard a crunch and a third sword, the full blade of the sword rippling with electricity, pierce the hull. Then he heard one more crunch and he saw two arms, then four, then the horned helmet and the cape. Then everything went dark.
